As I sit here in the "Drawing Room" at the Chicago Athletic Association (my all time favorite hotel in Chicago), I started to read an NYT article "Looking for 'a Different Kind of Wow': Next Level Hotel Experiences" and started to get outside my wheelhouse of talking about #cyber or #mergersandacquisitions but in my broader scope (and love) of global traveling. Here were some of my key takeaways from the article: 🧵Tailor-Made Activities: Luxury hotels are offering unique experiences beyond traditional amenities. For instance, heli-hiking in Vancouver, crafting custom perfumes in France, and professional photo shoots in New York. These cater to guests' craving for unique, memorable experiences to share on social media. 🏝️ Emphasis on Location and Cultural Immersion: Hotels like the Alila Marea Beach resort in California and the Raffles Singapore utilize their unique locations to enhance guest experiences. The former offers surfing lessons and private coastal tours, while the latter provides a holistic retreat with personalized menus, wellness treatments, and tea with a local museum owner. 🕶️ Personalized Experiences and Exclusive Access: Hotels are emphasizing personalized experiences and exclusivity. Guests at the InterContinental London can join Michelin-starred chef Theo Randall for kitchen masterclasses, while Carlton Cannes offers vintage car tours in Grasse. The Langham, Chicago, provides intensive tours of Frank Lloyd Wright’s home with chauffeured rides. These trends reflect a shift in the hospitality industry towards providing lavish, personalized, and culturally immersive experiences to cater to the evolving demands of travelers. I am personally not a high-end luxury traveler, but I do appreciate a lot of the above in my own travels.
