Everyone wins when a leader gets better. ⬆ That refrain continues to echo through my mind as I am coming off of getting my bell rung by yet another Global Leadership Summit.  I’m not sure how many times my wife and I have attended this, but I’m guessing this is about our tenth year.  And I’ve regretted zero of them. 👌🏼 The GLS is a perennial fixture on our August calendar because it challenges our thinking and spawns new conversations that always tend to bring things back into focus for where we are and where we want to go. 🔭 This year, one of the things that thumped me was: Leaders invest in their own leadership.  If you’re a business owner, think about how much you spend every year on technology, vehicles, people, office space, and things that are simply the “cost of doing business”. The first batch of Lead Forward is kicking off this October! We know from experience that leaders with 1-3 years of leadership experience benefit the most from our program. In the past, our #leadershipprogram was designed for women only, but Lead Forward is open to every person who wants to learn how to lead with a people-first approach! The new edition is also not location-restricted - as it's an online, self-paced program, you can join us wherever you are. I want my team to tell me what sucks - with work and with my leadership. But just asking for their bluntness is insufficient. Here’s how we’re ripping off the Band-Aid together: At our leadership retreat next week, I’m asking my colleagues to participate in an in-person CEO feedback session. I want everyone to give me live critiques. I’m asking them for maximum transparency and committing to maximum openness on my part. To prepare for this experience, I asked my team to read “The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership.” Their homework was to focus on Commitment #4 - Speaking Candidly. We’ll talk earlier in the day about the two big takeaways from this chapter: #1 - Withholding our feelings and opinions decreases our energy, our engagement, and our progress. #2 - Revealing them opens us to learning and connecting. As a leader, I want to do more of the good stuff and less of the bad stuff. So it’s my responsibility to make radical candor a foundation of our culture.
