Do you TRUST your Leader? In today's dynamic work landscape, building trust is the cornerstone of success. Research from DDI reveals a concerning trend - only 32% of leaders trust their senior leaders, and just 46% trust their direct managers to do what is right. Want to build trust? 7 Behaviors to Boost Trust 1️⃣ Listen and respond with empathy. 2️⃣ Provide opportunities for team members' growth and development. 3️⃣ Share thoughts and rationale for decisions. 4️⃣ Genuinely acknowledge your own failures. 5️⃣ Inquire and care about employee well-being. 6️⃣ Encourage others to challenge old ways of doing things. 7️⃣ Recognize the success of team members. 🌟 Results Speak Louder Than Words: Trust Breeds Innovation Leaders who consistently exhibit these behaviors are nearly 3X more likely to foster novel ideas and solutions. They embrace failure as an opportunity to learn, creating a culture where innovation thrives. 🔄 The Trust-Vulnerability Connection Leaders who display vulnerability are 5.3X more likely to be trusted, and acknowledging failures makes them 7.5X more likely to maintain trust. 🔗 Linking Trust to Success In the complex world of hybrid work, trust is the glue that holds teams together. Leaders who prioritize trust-building behaviors empower their teams to excel, creating an environment where collaboration, innovation, and employee well-being flourish. #leadership #Trust

In today’s fast-paced and uncertain environment, leaders are faced with the challenge of keeping their teams motivated and reassured despite external pressures and internal anxieties. Effective communication and leadership strategies are essential in preventing stress and fostering a culture of trust and resilience within organizations. Here’s a succinct guide to help leaders navigate these complexities and support their teams effectively. 🌟 1. 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 🏆 - Balance tales of victories with stories of trials and errors. This strategy encourages a culture of growth, where setbacks are seen as opportunities for learning rather than failures. 2. 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 📢 - Silence can be unsettling. Regularly communicate with your team, even if there’s no new information, to prevent speculation and build a foundation of transparency and trust. 3. 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 👏 - Reflecting on and acknowledging past successes reinforces team members' contributions, boosting morale and motivation by reminding them of their capabilities and achievements. 4. 𝐁𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 🤹 - Sharing your own challenges and concerns in a constructive manner can help to normalize workplace stress, making you more relatable and encouraging a culture of openness and support. 5. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐀𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 🗺️ - Avoid misunderstandings by being clear about the reasons behind your decisions and actions. This clarity helps to minimize anxiety and keeps the team focused and engaged. #mindfulness #communication #Leadership #influence #Impact

🤝 How Effective Leaders Guide Their Teams Through Crisis 🎯 In times of crisis, effective leadership can make all the difference. A study by the Harvard Business Review found that leaders who demonstrated empathy, transparency, and adaptability during challenging times were more likely to foster resilience and maintain team performance. Take, for example, the CEO of a global technology company who, during a major market shift, prioritised regular communication and transparency with employees. By openly sharing the company's challenges and involving team members in decision-making processes, the CEO built trust and motivated employees to work together towards solutions. Additionally, by providing resources for professional development and encouraging a culture of innovation, the company demonstrated a commitment to employee growth, resulting in increased resilience and productivity. In times of crisis, leaders who prioritise empathy, transparency, and adaptability can navigate uncertainty and build stronger, more resilient teams. Check out my latest Human Capital Leadership article, "Combating a Culture of False Urgency at Work." From the conclusion: "False urgency has become a problematic norm at many organizations. Though leaders may unintentionally incentivize crisis mode, this reactive culture ultimately hinders productivity and innovation. However, leaders can combat false urgency by banning reactive language, modeling calm behavior, rewarding long-term priorities, and proactively planning. This thoughtful approach enables employees to focus on work that truly matters, fostering engagement, quality, and strong results over time. Organizations that successfully reshape mindsets will outperform chaotic competitors." Take a look at the full article and let me know what you think!

☢ Connecting When Tensions Are High: Reflecting on Leadership Miscommunications Leading diverse teams across diverse organizations has been a journey of growth, challenges, and self-discovery. Recently, an article by Liz Fosslien on leadership miscommunication resonated with me, reflecting on my own experiences and the common pitfalls I've encountered. The missteps I've navigated and learned from offer valuable lessons that could enlighten fellow leaders on their paths to more effective communication and team engagement. Some of them are: 📖 Embracing the Full Story: Early in my career as a leader, I focused on celebrating successes, inadvertently sidelining those facing challenges. I've learned the importance of sharing the full journey—successes and setbacks alike—to foster a more inclusive and resilient team culture. 📣 The Power of Transparent Communication: Silence can lead to anxiety, especially during uncertain times. I've realized the value of transparent communication, even if it's just to say there's no update. It keeps the team aligned and builds trust. 🏆 Acknowledging Past Achievements: Focusing solely on future goals, I sometimes overlooked past accomplishments. Regularly celebrating our collective achievements has become crucial, reinforcing the team's capabilities and maintaining motivation. 🙋♂️ Sharing Vulnerabilities: Initially, I tried to shield my team from stress, but sharing challenges and vulnerabilities has proven to strengthen our collective resolve. It's about leading with empathy and reinforcing the team's ability to overcome obstacles together. 📚 Providing Context: I've learned that abrupt changes or requests, without proper context, can lead to unnecessary stress. Ensuring clear communication about the 'why' behind actions helps maintain focus and reduce speculation. In the end, effective leadership is all about balance—acknowledging the full spectrum of experiences, maintaining open communication, celebrating each person's journey, sharing challenges, and providing clear context. #Leadership #leadershipdevelopment #leadershipinsights #latinoleaders #healthcareleadership #Leaders

Vulnerability series part 3. Enhancing Trust and Connection When we deliver our sessions on site Wa talk about courage sharing your story, we know that when we share our story it gives others permission to share there story and from there we build trust. When leaders show their human side, it bridges the gap between them and their team. Employees are more likely to trust leaders who are honest about their own challenges and who demonstrate empathy. This trust fosters deeper connections and a sense of belonging, which are essential for collaboration and collective problem-solving.
