Docker bought AtomicJar: why, and what does that mean? This Monday, Docker announced it’s buying AtomicJar, makers of the popular Testcontainers tool that makes it easier to see how applications run in a full production environment with disposable, lightweight instances of containerized applications. So, Docker will likely integrate the tool and allow developers to test their applications for production without making them run through the entire CI pipeline. The goal is to improve developer productivity by saving costs, labor, and time. The popularity of Testcontainers is a symptom of a still pernicious problem: most development is still done on programmers’ laptops instead of being set up in the cloud, on development platform environments which could easily solve the same problem more effectively and systematically. But software developers don’t live in a perfect world. So there are good and bad news in that acquisition: the good is that Docker should soon have more built-in testing tools; the bad is a realization that developers are still forced to work using terrible infrastructure that forces them to cut corners to do their work 🤷♂️ #Docker #debugging #Testcontainers

🌟 Weaving a Seamless Web Experience: Unleashing #docker and #kubernetes in Action! 🐳⚙️🌐 Exciting times ahead as I dive deeper into the realm of #docker and #kubernetes, revolutionizing the way we deploy and manage applications! 🚀 #docker, the transformative technology, allows us to create consistent and isolated containers for our applications. These containers encapsulate everything needed for smooth operation, from the code to dependencies and even the operating system. It ensures a reliable and portable runtime environment, empowering us to deliver a seamless web experience. But that's not all! With #kubernetes as our trusted orchestration tool, we automate the deployment, scaling, and management of these containers. Kubernetes takes care of tasks like load balancing, ensuring optimal performance across multiple servers. Together, #docker and #kubernetes harmoniously work to deliver an exceptional web experience, where #efficiency, #reliability, and #scalability intertwine. #Docker #Kubernetes #LoadBalancing #SeamlessWebExperience #Efficiency #Reliability #OptimalPerformance

Check out our blog post! 💡 Our colleague Daniel Agg shared the second part of his article, Serverless and Edge Runtime. This time, he details the importance of Edge Runtime, its benefits, and how it can be used to improve the scalability and performance of applications. He also discusses the challenges that come with implementing the Edge Runtime. #Apiumhub #techhub #softwaredevelopment #EdgeRuntime

Ultra-Lean Code is about pragmatic, low-dependency code patterns, *not* other vendors' libraries and tools. It is a combination of rarely used but highly effective patterns that save money, time, and risk. But which of these 20:1 Ultra-Lean Code benefits are most important to YOU? - Smaller Code Footprint - Smaller Test Automation Suite Size - More flexible than "No Code" Approaches - Product Quality & Stability - Ramp-up Time & Engineering Team Morale - Agility, Business Opportunity - Stakeholder Morale - Security & Risk - Transparency & Compliance - Portability and Cloud Independence - Complexity & Maintainability - Performance & Scalability - User Experience Consistency - Engineer Competence and Career Development - Reusability across Multiple Applications As you can see, there are too many benefits for a poll - and too many for my series' back cover! But help figuring out the top five would be most appreciated.

Ohh the "dilemma😫": Code vs No-Code Code 👍 • Allows for scalable products • Fully customizable • Can build advanced logics Also, Code 👎 • Weeks of development • High opportunity costs • Harder to maintain No-code 👍 • Build an V1 over the weekend • Faster experiments • Easier to maintain • Cheaper to start with Also No-code 👎 • SAAS lock-in • Harder to scale • Almost impossible to migrate to code • Not always customizable the way you want No code helps you move faster. But also, AI helps you code faster. You'll find confirmation bias on whatever you choose. So becoming a die-hard fan of only one way is pointless. I've been on teams who do both. Some combine it with low code. A few best know how to leverage code into no-code. It truly depends on: → What you need to build → How much time you have → Your budget → Your skill set → The stage you're at Remember, it's not a matter of "this or that," but what's best for the project you have in mind. So in reality... there is no dilemma. It's a rational decision. Treat it like it.

💡 A Software Engineer is reaching out to the community for advice: 1) Have you migrated from Lagom to another framework while keeping Slick in your stack? 2) What frameworks have you found to be effective for #Scala-based microservices? 3) Any lessons learned or pitfalls to avoid during such a migration? Help out and comment in the section below 🫱🏻🫲🏼 P.S. If you have any questions, send it to us and we'll ask the community!
