That Friday feelin’ calls for a #BlackstoneShowcase that offers a fang-tastic twist on the vampire genre! Horror, social commentary, and a bite of buddy comedy collide in Michelle McGill Vargas’ wildly entertaining debut, AMERICAN GHOUL!🧛♀️🧛♀️🧛♀️Perfect for fans of #GradyHendrix and #SilviaMorenoGarcia, sink your teeth into the synopsis (and preorder the September 3rd release via the 🔗 below)! You can’t kill someone who’s already dead. That’s what Lavinia keeps telling her jailer after—allegedly—killing her mistress, Simone Arceneau. But how could Simone be dead when she was taking callers just a few minutes before? And why was her house always so dark? Lavinia, a recently freed slave, met Simone, a recently undead vampire, by chance on a plantation in post–Civil War Georgia. With nothing remaining for either woman in the South, the two form a fast friendship and head north. However, Lavinia quickly learns that teaming up with this white woman may be more than she bargained for. Simone is reckless and impulsive—which would’ve been bad enough on its own, but when combined with her particular diet, Lavinia finds herself in way over her head. As she is forced to repeatedly compromise her morals and struggles to make lasting human connections, Lavinia begins to wonder, is she truly free or has she merely exchanged one form of enslavement for another? As bodies start to pile up in the small Indiana town they’ve settled in, people start to take a second look at the two newcomers, and Simone and Lavinia’s relationship is stretched to its breaking point … . . 👻Learn more about #AMERICANGHOUL: https://lnkd.in/gH3bmwMp . . . #MichelleMcGillVargasthe #americanghoulbook #supernaturalfiction #supernaturalbooks #vampirebooks #vampirefiction #southerngothic #noirfiction #noirhumor #horrorbookstagram #horrorbookslove #horrorbooks #horrorfiction #occultfiction #BlackstoneBooks #BlackstonePublishing #BlackstoneAudio #bookcoverlove #newbookalert #bookcoverdesign #bookcoverart #bookcoverreveal

I'm back with more romance sub-genre chat. And today, we're talking about rom-coms. ❤️ 😆 There's been a resurgence of them, which makes me so happy! These light-hearted love stories are what we all need right now. Rom-coms also hold a special place in my heart because they were my introduction to romance. I read them, loved them, looked for more, and realized that there were a slew of other romance novels out there for me to explore. My TBR pile has never been the same... 📚 But the sub-genre itself is hard to define. What makes a romantic comedy a...romantic comedy? How do you measure how funny a book is? Should the romance and the comedy be equally balanced? Truthfully, there's no set formula. 🔬 But I like to think of them as the perfect marriage of shenanigans and snark. The books that make you snort-laugh if you're listening to them on audio, or giggle to yourself as you hold your Kindle or paperback. The books that often get labeled great beach reads, because they're the perfect titles to devour while you stick your toes in the sand and listen to the waves crashing on the shore. 🏖 The books that sound so good right now that I think I'll stop writing this post and go read one (my title of choice: Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute by Talia Hibbert). #WritingCommunity #PublishingIndustry #NewAuthor

I have just finished reading 'Me Before You.' Before I start rating this book, let me tell you that I am not a fan of romantic books. I have only read a few. So, I wasn't even sure if I could finish this book because, boy, it is a vast book. But it was gifted to me by my dear friend, so I knew I had to read it. I picked this book reluctantly, expecting nothing, but to my surprise, I finished it quite fast. When I started reading, I thought, 'Not again.' It seemed so similar to 'The Fault in Our Stars' and 'Five Feet Apart.' Despite the clichéd storyline, I found myself hooked on the book. I dived into the world of Louisa and Will and felt every emotion. I laughed, cried, got angry, and felt helpless. The only complaint I have about this book is that I wanted to see more moments of Louisa and Will being in love. It is not just a romantic story but a tale about human troubles and difficulties in life. It is also about finding yourself, as Louisa Clark does. At 26, she has no aim until she meets Will, who shows her the endless possibilities that exist in life. What I love about the writing style of Moyes is that she builds her characters patiently and waits for them to unfold naturally. She doesn't just show the good parts of the characters but also their evil sides. Louisa and Will, along with the other characters, are beautifully imperfect, and flawed, but unique in their way. Moyes picked a very sensitive and brave topic and added a pinch of humour and arrogance to it as well. I believe that is very hard to pull. It could’ve gone wrong in so many ways, but she handles it beautifully throughout. I was devastated by the ending of this book. I cried my eyes out. It not only made me cry but also made me ponder life itself. It made me think about what I would have done if I were in Will's place. Did he make the right choice? Do we need to live even if we feel like dying every day? Is love enough to live? and many more questions. As I have said, I was devastated by the ending, but having said that, it somehow felt realistic. . Looking for a romantic novel? Pick this one! . #bookshelf #bookcommunity #bookstoread #booksummary #prerikareviews

If these are your tropes: 🐿 Smalltown romance 🐿 Landlord - Tenant 🐿 Grumpy loner - Sunshiny dog lover 🐿 Suspense (Stalker) Then, you need to read Obsession Falls by Claire Kingsley. The story has a good blend of comedy, suspense, and romance. Note: I received an ARC for this book. https://lnkd.in/gvawEcnF #bookreview #bookrecommendation #romancebooks #bookblog #advancereadercopy #readers

BOOK LOVERS EMILY HENRY #bookreview To start with, this book is not impressive. Nora (literary agent), Charlie (editor). Their meeting didn’t go well. Libby (most pampered sister of Nora, expecting third baby in months), plans a vacation to Sunshine falls only with Nora; Libby has a motive behind the trip which shocks Nora by the end; Brendan (Libby’s husband) stays at New York looking after two kids. Nora and Charlie meet again at Sunshine falls, they love, they also jointly work on a new book. So, this is the gist of the lengthy book, supposed to be romantic book. Here and there names of books, quotes are included to make readers feel, they are reading Book Lovers book. From starting till end, Libby behaves a overgrown adult child, who is pampered to the core by Nora, after their mum dies. Both Charlie and Nora keep sharing their past, their victim mindset, insecurities and finally think they motivate each other. Too much of description about men, women, their features and high voltage romance in few pages, to remind readers, that they are not reading an emotional book. There is no sudden twist or wow moments as given by some reviews. Half way through, the end is predictable. For all these hype and lengthy descriptions, author could have made a better end to story. If anyone has read Sophie Kinsella ‘s books (Can you keep a secret, I have got your number), then this is no less different. Same type of female character and writing style. More of sister love drama (sissy love they say), too much of boring conversations, sudden new characters, unwanted flashbacks in-between. Not a happy read. Not worth the time. #booklovers #read #readingcommunity #vacation #love
