Did you know that we can have a physical depression as much as a mental depression? We're all familiar with the word...depression. We know the symptoms and can often get a lot of support from our friends, coworkers and family. But...why is exercise so daunting? We know it's important. We know the benefits. But why is it so darn hard to get a true workout in 3-5x per week consistently? From my experience, the culprit is likely a physical depression and waiting for that perfect motivation moment is not the best solution. I went through a traumatic event many years ago and my mental depression resulted in going from athlete to gaining 130lbs over 12 months. Since then, I've lost 80lbs but I hit another depression to get the last 40lbs off. The solution? Talk to someone like Nick Smoot Don't rely on motivation. Rely on baby steps. This has been my journey to kick physical depression in the butt. At home daily: - 5 pushups - 5 jumping jacks - 5 squats all while watching something on tv. After a week: Doubled Week after: Tripled 21 days later: It was just something I did. A habbit. Then I signed up at a local MMA gym to learn how to box. Why? Because I realized my #1 problem with exercise was how boring it is. CrossFit, LA Fitness, Personal Trainers....too boring. Now, I sleep better, feel better and my #1 challenge is to show up each day but my trainer would be disappointed if I didn't have a good reason. I invested into my sleep...big time to recover. My good friend Paris Fealy has an incredible sleep aid product. If you are not healthy physically, it could likely be a depression so treat it differently than being lazy. You would never tell someone who is in a mental depression they are lazy... ...so don't say that to yourself. You are NOT lazy.
