🌍 **The Reciprocal Magic of Volunteerism in Climate Action** 🤝 Volunteering with Terra.do ‘s Open Door program has been an enlightening journey for me. My role involves opening up my calendar to connect with individuals passionate about #ClimateAction. The aim? To share experiences, resources, and insights into tackling one of humanity's most pressing issues. Recently, I had the pleasure of engaging in a heartfelt conversation with a gentleman eager to find his direction in the climate space. As we delved into his aspirations and potential paths, the conversation took a beautiful turn. He asked about *my* journey. It was a moment that allowed me to offer encouragement and share valuable resources that could help him move forward. As we concluded our video call, he posed a question: "Are you being paid for your time?" My answer was a simple, "No." I do this because the urgency of climate change transcends any monetary value. His response? A heartfelt 'Thank you' for sharing my time and knowledge. Truth be told, his gratitude revitalized me. Sometimes, we underestimate the emotional and spiritual returns of volunteerism. That moment was a reminder that the work we do is not just vital for the planet but also enriching for our souls. I needed that encouragement probably more than he needed my advice. If you're on the fence about volunteering or taking action on climate change, let this be your nudge. The work is rewarding in more ways than one. #ClimateChange #Volunteerism #Sustainability #ClimateAction #GiveBack #DataAnalytics #CarbonAccounting #Networking

“The climate sector as a whole has not grasped that climate change is going to impact people in the global south, [the] working class the hardest. Relying on rich white people to build a movement is only going to get us so far.” According to research by RACE (Racial Action on the Climate Emergency) environmental charities are lacking on racial diversity. In sustainability circles, people often talk about building a liveable future. But an increasing number of people in the global south don't have a liveable present due to the impacts of climate change. And Black communities are more likely to be impacted by environmental issues like pollution. An overwhelmingly white sustainability sector means we miss the real issues affecting people of the global majority now. Thanks to James Dady for sharing this story in the Better Business Network newsletter! #Environmentalism #IntersectionalEnvironmentalism #RacialActionOnTheClimateEmergency #Sustainability

Our next budget recommendation states that the time has come to invest in environmental volunteering activities that focus on prevention, restoration, education and recovery to boost Australia’s environmental and climate-change actions at the community level. 5. Establish an Environmental and Climate Change Volunteering Capacity Building Program. The Australian Government should invest in foundational work to establish a program which builds environmental and climate change volunteering capacity.

Youth climate anxiety is a real and growing concern. 44% of youth report being “very concerned” about climate change, with 68% experiencing negative health impacts because of it. BUT 3 in 4 youth are also taking positive action to respond to climate change. Nonprofits like SanDiego350 are doing critical work to prevent the worst impacts of climate change and climate injustice. Their youth program empowers and activates youth to take part in climate action and build healthier communities. We were so proud to support SanDiego350 through this year’s Blue Shield of California 2023 environmental justice investments. #WhatWeStandFor #BlueSky #Sustainability
