Women’s bodies. Ogled at, violated, traded and commented on. Imposed upon, decided for, silenced, criticized and groped. Stripped with one’s eyes, burned, judged, paraded, fondled, mutilated and sneered at. Too strong, too skinny, too sexy, fragile, frigid, definitely too masculine, too forward, too timid, disproportionate, inadequate. Opined on, drugged, stalked, degraded, medianed, broken, regulated and disposed. Sometimes worshiped, many times murdered, mocked, pleasured, branded, insulted, nurtured, adored, adorned, owned. My journey with my body evolves. From cowering, minimizing and feeling trapped to an enveloping gratitude, from feeling weighed by judgment and arbitrary standards to discovery, acceptance, celebration and peace, exploration takes the place of confusion, awe hushes criticism, healing soothes grief and comfort comforts shame. This is me. I am woman. Photography by the inimitable francois Bienaime #welcometotheskies #iamwoman #women #genderjustice #genderbasedviolence
