Morning Sessions down at FOOTPRINT+ 8.30. Willmott Dixon. Early Engagement. An early start but this was a really good opener. Richard Bartlett spoke about trying to ‘flatten the cost curve’ through the work stages and then Basil Demeroutis spoke from a client perspective. Made a good point about most firms in construction having less than 10 employees - how to drive change (and competency) to them. I might steal his view on firms and regulations, that being firms that aren’t pioneering get mopped up by the regulations. Thought that was a nice take. 10.00. Retrofit Agenda. Poor sound throughout (later sorted for subsequent presentations). 10.45. MMC off-site, timber frame houses. Couple of bits picked up from Rachel Witcherley about how Homes England are assessing the success of MMC. 15 metrics make up the appraisal. Something worth reviewing. 11.30. New York Urban Policy. What a presentation. Shanta Tucker and Elie Gamburg take a bow. So interesting. A talk between the difference in approaches adopted by Boston, London and New York. Made too many notes to list here but will be following both of them with interest. This afternoon there’re a couple I’ll try and get down to… - Establishing the level of retrofit, and. - Optoppen. Vertical extensions. Missed the latter when they came into ARAD to talk at the last event. So be keen to hear what they say. It’s been a decent event so far though. First time attending.
