Earlier this week I presented to a group at MSD. This is a key takeout from my speech that I wish to share with you. "Over the past nine months, our organisation has experienced an extraordinary period of growth. What began with a modest team of just six staff members has blossomed into a robust workforce of fifty individuals. Within this expansion, we are especially proud to have provided sixteen individuals with meaningful, full-time employment opportunities through our partnership initiatives with Awhina, Michelle, and their team. Their dedication and hard work have not only enriched our organisation but have also brought about positive transformations within our community and families. Those are 16 families who are now supported by our business." "I firmly believe in the transformative power of meaningful employment. This is how happy people at Boehringer Ingelheim look like 😊.   Last week, Alexandra Breiner and I had the honor to run a major global event for the largest business unit of Boehringer Ingelheim, Humanpharma: Intent Day ✨. Under the motto of “United by Intent - powered by you”, we organized 4 global virtual sessions that had been prepared by colleagues, for colleagues. Intent Day truly travelled around the globe as there were rebroadcasts for the Asian/Pacific region as well as for the Americas. In addition, our colleagues in the US, China, Japan and Germany organized local sessions. What an amazing journey 🚀!   All session teams had signed up voluntarily and went above and beyond their regular day jobs. Their commitment truly role-modelled our 5 core behaviors: taking accountability, making timely decisions, learning new things, constructively challenging each other, and listening to our patients. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed 🙏🌺!   Personally, I had three key learnings from Intent Day:   ➡ It came out clearly throughout the sessions that we are all human beings first and foremost, before being patients, supervisors, employees, or colleagues 👩👧👧. Let's treat each other with respect, listen carefully, and always assume good intentions.   ➡ In times of busyness and pressure, it is crucial to reflect on why and what we want to change moving forward. What brought us here may not be beneficial for our future. Investing time in self-reflection can lead to meaningful growth and progress.   ➡ Embracing new ways of working can be enjoyable and fulfilling 💪🔥! I would say one of the biggest challenges many of us have in our organizations is we've got too much to do and not enough time and not enough people. Can you relate?   We just wrapped up our Melinta Therapeutics annual executive committee offsite meeting in beautiful Asbury Park. I always look forward to our in-person meetings – when you can meet in a setting where you’re not constantly on your laptop or your phone, you can accomplish so much. We took advantage of our time to discuss how we can operationalize and optimize our strategic plan for next year and beyond. And because we have so much to do, this includes having hard conversations about prioritization and getting alignment on what we will and will not do. Let’s face it, if everything is important, nothing is important, so what is ESSENTIAL?   Even more importantly, we discussed our talent – the people at the heart of our success. As a leadership team, one of the most important things we do is make sure we invest in our people and support a culture that values continuous learning and growth. One of the highlights of this offsite was the integration of fun team-building activities, including my second competitive bowling competition this year. Let's just say, I think I missed my calling. But all jokes aside, these moments of fun and connection outside of the office are just as important as the work we do day-to-day.
