Aside from the fact that inclusion in Engineering is something we should be encouraging from a human perspective, given the reduction in the employment pool that many businesses in the sector are currently suffering inclusion and diversity is an open route to a whole new community of potential colleagues. The question is how to reach or accomodate people who would not normally see our trades as a route for them. Alongside opening the eyes of young people we must think about attracting people into a second career in Engineering through later life training and engagement with communities that we have not yet connected to. The people for us are out there, we just need to think wider than we have before.

Diversity and inclusion initiatives - we've heard about them, we've discussed them, but why are they not as popular as they should be? 🤔 Here are three thought-provoking ideas: 1️⃣ Change can be uncomfortable, but it's necessary. Embracing diversity and inclusion means challenging the status quo, and that can be met with resistance. But remember, it's a step towards a more equitable world. 2️⃣ Lack of awareness and education. Sometimes, organizations don't fully understand the benefits of diversity and inclusion. It's our responsibility to spread the word and share the positive impacts. 3️⃣ Fear of the unknown. Change can be scary. It's time to demystify diversity and inclusion, one step at a time. So, here's the call to action! Let's be the change we want to see. 🌟 Want to improve your organisation's culture, balance and productivity: take the ACEI Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Charter 🌟 At ACEI, we are proud to announce the launch of our Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Charter in partnership with the Irish Centre for Diversity (ICFD). ACEI members can now sign this charter and take an important step in their EDI journey. Several members are already well progressed on securing bronze, silver and gold accreditation with the Irish Centre for Diversity. We're asking all our members to sign the ACEI's Charter over July and August. Those that do so will be able to secure discounts for relevant training and consultation from our partner; the Irish Centre for Diversity.     The ACEI D&I Charter aims to promote equality, diversity and inclusion within the consulting engineering sector.     By participating in the charter, member Companies will work with the Irish Centre for Diversity and the ACEI to: Analyse and assess their current organisational cultures Develop strategies to improve EDI Attract and retain top talent  Build their reputation as an employer of choice  Generate evidence for ESG reporting  Improve productivity by increased diversity within their workforce   Caroline Cummins, Managing Director of ICFD, highlights: "The most forward-thinking and sustainable organizations have D&I firmly on the agenda as a business priority. HAESL has become a signatory to The Racial Diversity And Inclusion Charter For Employers. The Charter was delivered to HAESL office, and a delegation from The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) visited HAESL to take part in recording the signing ceremony together with our CEO George Edmunds.   The Charter, which is created by The EOC, lays out nine goals towards promoting racial inclusivity in the signatory's policies, culture, and work environment. “This is a very important step for HAESL to take,” said Mr Edmunds. “Aviation is an inherently international business, and we are glad to officially recognize our commitment to diversity and racial inclusivity in all aspects of our company.” Being a signatory, HAESL will support and work towards the Charter goals, as well as providing annual updates to the EOC on its progress.   Read more about the Charter and the nine goals here: https://lnkd.in/eMwTpxCM #EOC #HAESL #equalopportunities #diversity #inclusion #aviationindustry #bestintheworldbestfortheworld
