Today marks the start of National Volunteers Week! This week we’re taking the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the contributions of our volunteers. They’re an important part of our #OneBTP family. To all our volunteers – a very big thank you for all you do 👏 Our Police Support Volunteers help with a wide range of tasks from admin, cycle marking and public engagement to recruit/officer training exercises and specialist roles. Plus of course we have our brilliant Specials, Cadets, Independent Advisory Groups, chaplains, rail pastors and Railway Safety Accreditation Scheme volunteers. Do you work with our volunteers? Give them a shout-out here by sharing your appreciation in the comments below with the hashtag #NationalVolunteersWeek! 👇 Fancy becoming a volunteer? 🗓️ Earlier this month our Leicestershire Police negotiators teamed up with Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service to plan, arrange and deliver a negotiation input to our Fire & Rescue teams. This is due to on occasion, our Leicestershire firefighters will find themselves in situations where they need to communicate with people in crisis until the Police and Negotiators are in attendance. 🧑🏫 The training consists of a Presentation designed for them which is similar to the first responder inputs we deliver to our uniform colleagues, to provide them with some awareness of persons in crisis and some do’s and don’ts and advise when talking to them. ✅ Following this there will be three realistic scenarios for the Leicester Fire and Rescue Service to put what they have learned into practice. 🚒 It is key responsibility for us as Police Force to support our fellow Blue Light teams with training and resources where possible to ensure our communities are kept safe from harm. #TeamLeicestershire

Every year, we host our annual Night Out for Safety and Liberation as a space for folks to imagine what safety looks like without policing. This year is no exception. Join us this Tuesday, August 1, from 6-9 outside of Austin City Hall! And guess what? The Austin city budget is also on the same day, and they want to send us back to the 90s, a time defined by over-policing and mass criminalization. They're calling it a "Back to Basics" budget. If you do not want a “Back to Basics” budget -- and instead want to move forward with root-cause solutions to Austin’s most urgent problems, register against the Austin City Budget. This budget is opposed by dozens of local groups who came together to offer the “Community Investment Budget” instead. Let's pack the room and demand for a just budget! Night Out for Safety and Liberation August 1, 2023 6:00 pm - 9:00pm Location: Austin City Hall 301 W 2nd St, Austin, TX 78701 RSVP today! https://lnkd.in/gNMsMUfG Testify Against Austin City Budget August 1, 2023 Testimony begins at 3 PM Location: Austin City Hall 301 W 2nd St, Austin, TX 78701 Note: Registration closes Monday 7/31 @ 12 PM! As a responsible recruiter working in sectors where modern slavery is prevalent, we want to highlight Anti-Slavery week that runs from 16 to 22 October. Latest figures show that the estimated total number of people currently living in modern slavery at any given time is 50 million. Over the last 5 years, that figure has increased by 10 million. Accordingly, we’re sharing our graphic to raise awareness, as we also remind our staff how they can play their part to eradicate modern slavery from our supply chains. #antislaveryday #antislaveryweek #raisingawareness #nationalreferralmechanism #responsiblerecruitment #joinus #freefromexplotiation #fairwork #sustinability

It is great to see that Road Safety has made it into the Government Communications Services 2024/25 priorities, "delivering essential and life-saving messaging." Having clear political leadership is a necessity if road safety policies are to work. Hopefully, the UK's Road Safety Strategy will also be published in the near future.
