The Global Report on #InternalDisplacement by the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) has been released and the numbers keep rising.
26.4 million people were displaced due to extreme weather events and natural disasters with 3.7 million belonging to South Asia.
As much as it's important to learn about the 'big numbers' associated with #HumanMobility due to #ClimateChange, it is also important to understand the complex socio-economic challenges faced by people due to #conflicts and #disasters.
These large figures must not overshadow the local-level #vulnerabilities faced by people across the globe. Improvement in #predicting migration patterns, better understanding of the socio-economic and legal consequences of migration and displacement, and #financialsupport measures must be explored to build the adaptive capacity of people who are at risk of displacement.
In such a scenario, the Risk Index for Climate Displacement is a welcome step by IOM Asia Pacific.

An interdisciplinary approach is crucial to address #climatechange and #publichealth in Lebanon and Jordan. This includes incentivizing governments to integrate climate considerations into health policies and fostering cross-sectoral collaboration and stakeholder awareness. Emphasizing research and developing quantifiable climate-health indicators will further unify efforts to tackle these interlinked challenges effectively.
Concluding the section on the examples of Community-Resilience building via Adaptation in South Asia. Good examples from different sectors made efficient, effective, resource-sensitive and culturally appropriate because they are al community-based adaptations. IPCC reports miss these aspects because of the focus on global models which lack the ability to provide local risk info. Let’s hope future projections will focus on societally relevant timescales and location-specific risk information.

The conflict in Gaza is not just a human tragedy but also an environmental catastrophe. Currently, nearly 20,000 people, including over 7,000 children, are confirmed killed, with many more feared buried under the rubble, and almost 2 million displaced. Additionally, the use of white phosphorus munitions and heavy bombing are inflicting irreversible harm on the environment, further endangering human health.
Amidst our ongoing global environmental crisis, this situation in Gaza underscores the critical need for cooperation and peace. We must ask ourselves, how much devastation must occur before we say #enoughisenough? In a time when unity and collaborations are crucial, the continuation of such destruction and disregard for life is both heartbreaking and incredibly alarming.
