Is it a good news or bad news day for Ireland's most vulnerable children and families? #Budget2024 With the announcement today, CDI’s pre-budget submission priorities call upon the government to prioritise children. We want them to focus on Ireland's most vulnerable children and families. Today, we highlight our priority five: Prevention and Early Intervention. What the government needs to do: 💰 Address the deficit of €500k in the national ABC Programme budget. 💱 Retrospectively apply 4% cost of living increase received by all other Tusla grantees in 2022 to the national ABC Programme. 🚧 Ensure that Tusla retains a ring-fenced budget for the ABC programme. CDI's deep-rooted expertise, knowledge, and grassroots experience empower its advocacy for much-needed resources to transform the lives of children and families. Good news for child support programs during states of emergency! The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Administration for Children and Families, announced a new final rule March 4. It allows the Office of Child Support Services (OCSS) to modify performance measure requirements and waive penalties when an emergency impacts a state’s ability to achieve required performance measures. “Child support programs were incredibly resilient and innovative in finding ways to continue providing services to families during the pandemic,” said OCSS Commissioner Tanguler Gray. “This rule is an important tool to help programs weather future emergencies.” OHSEPR Director Natalie Grant added, “Every day, human services are key to helping individuals and families transition from crisis to recovery. In time for holiday travel and winter weather, FEMA’s Ready Campaign launched the first-ever #WinterReady campaign encouraging people to identify and reduce the risks they face during the winter season. As part of the FEMA Ready campaign’s goal of empowering all people to take steps to become disaster resilient, FEMA and the Ad Council recently launched new PSAs, developed specifically for older adults. In the campaign’s 20th year, the new “Take Control” PSAs empower older adults and their caregivers to take three simple steps to prepare for an emergency: 1) assess needs, 2) make a plan and 3) engage support networks. This is the first time FEMA has created a campaign to reach older adults with tailored messaging and information specifically for them.
