Yesterday, I found myself craving a McFlurry.
After checking for any special offers, I decided to visit the McDonald's outlet on Linking Road in Bandra, Mumbai.
As I reached, something on their banner caught my eye, and I couldn't help but do a double-take. Instead of the familiar McDonald's logo, it was quoted as "WcDonald's." Thought it to be another Brand Imitation case but the story was different.
Intrigued, I stepped inside to see what was going on. To my surprise, everything was reminiscent of McDonald's – from the staff uniforms to the menu and even the operations.
My curiosity led me to do a quick Google search, and that's when I got to know the story of WcDonald's.
WcDonald's is a fictional fast-food chain featured in anime and movies, known for its "W"-shaped golden arches. It started in a 1983 episode of Cat's Eye and was also mentioned in a 1975 MAD Magazine issue.
What's even more fascinating is that on April 5, McDonald's India (West & South) embraced this anime culture by officially transforming their Linking Road outlet into WcDonald's.
It was a very creative and unique way of embracing pop culture and giving customers a fun, unique dining experience.
The temporary transformation showcased McDonald's ability to appreciate and celebrate creative ideas from pop culture, making the visit even more memorable.
P-s- Instead of Mcflurry, took Mcflurry Biscoff. It was horrible.
