Here is the thing: Mental health stigma makes it hard for women to speak up and get help. Fear, discrimination, and marginalization prevent individuals from seeking help or disclosing their symptoms, leading to silent suffering. Even healthcare professionals may hold misconceptions, resulting in inadequate treatment. Combating stigma requires education, training, and community involvement to promote acceptance and support for those with mental health conditions. @NyaliFoundation says: 🧠💙Let's create an environment where seeking help is encouraged, leading to better outcomes and improved quality of life for all. #MentalHealthAwareness #EndMentalHealthStigma #NyaliFoundation #SierraLeone #BreakTheSilence #YouAreNotAlone #MentalHealthMatters #Wellbeing #MentalHealthSupport #StrongerTogether #YouMatter #SeekHelp #BeKindToYourMind

A significant disparity exists between the number of individuals experiencing #MentalHealth concerns and the number of people who seek help for those concerns. It's estimated that 19% of American adults currently experience a mental health issue, however, nearly half of those individuals do not seek treatment. One explanation for this disparity is the pervasive #stigma surrounding #MentalIllness and its treatment. This #ThoughtfulThursday article explores the extent to which exposure to social media posts derogating mental health treatment increases this stigma. 👉 https://buff.ly/3QXziZt #HealthComm #HealthCommunication #PublicHealth #Healthcare #SocialMedia

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month; also known as BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month. The goals are to improve access to mental health treatment and services and promote public awareness of mental illness; as well as enhance public awareness of mental illness among underserved communities. Mental Illness is still largely stigmatized in communities of color; this is why Crescent and Crown focuses their services towards BIPOC individuals. Our goal is to increase accessibility and normalize the need for mental health support throughout the perinatal stage of life. #BIPOCMentalHealthAwareness #BIPOCMentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthConditionsDoNotDiscriminate #BreakTheStigma #perinatalmentalhealth #blackmentalhealth #blackmaternalhealth #blackmentalhealthmatters #bipocmentalhealth

1wSince the passage of MHSA in California our tribal elders have advocated for cultural competency in provision of mental healthcare. We have been working to provide cultural competency training to address the impact of genocide, social and geographical isolation as these historical and ongoing mental health challenges are essentially ignored in the field of mental health care for our tribal children and families. California, although it has language that may promote cultural competency and outreach and engagement of underserved communities there are little to no efforts by government officials to provide the resources to support intent of public policies. There is absolutely no effort to address the needs of our tribal youth and families. It’s part of the ongoing efforts to “colonize “ tribal communities by continuing to ignore the total lack of cultural competency in provision of mental health care and services that reflect great displacement and disparities between what’s needed and what is ultimately provided. Colonization at its best!
