I spent the last couple days with my colleagues from MPHI talking about the future of public health. Thanks to generous funding from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention we have the opportunity to support state and local public health agencies as they build and strengthen much needed infrastructure in the wake of the COVID pandemic. I was particularly excited to hear my colleague and teammate Melissa Moorehead speak about data modernization. Their team and our partners at Illinois Public Health Institute (IPHI) are supporting efforts to make datasharing more efficient, accessible, and equitable through the Data Across Sectors for Health project. While much work is still needed, these efforts holds promise for allowing local and state public health agencies and the communities they serve to have access the data they need to inform their efforts in a safe and responsible way. Another key discussion focused on building a #TraumaInformed public health system. My colleague and teammate Kelsey Sala-Hamrick, PhD LP shared about ongoing efforts coordinated by Center for Strategic Health Partnerships through though the Michigan ACE Initiative and its nearly 200 partnering organizations across MI to support those who experience personal, social, historical, or other trauma. This work is helping state and local organizations to understand the impact of trauma, avoid retraumatizing those who have experienced trauma, and develop data-driven evidence-based strategies to prevent future trauma. From an individual view, the magnitute of work before us is paralyzing, but the PHIG initiative has provided us with a perfect storm - Today we have have Vision, Partners at the Ready, and Funding. So ready or not, as these three collide it’s time to press forward boldly to change the face of public health and improve the lives of all. #CSHPAtWork #VetoViolence #DASH
The MPHI crew at PHIG Region 5 Convening! A great couple of days showcasing what #publichealth can be. We are excited to see how all the teams move forward and drive better public health outcomes in our communities. Thank you to everyone, especially National Network of Public Health Institutes and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
