It was an intense and fun week at #Hannover – what I took away:
1. Companies making the most progress are partnering…I think Dillon Forzese from Tulip Interfaces says it well that ‘manufacturing is an ecosystem of vendors, solutions, citizen developers, and opportunities’ and we must treat it that way. Really thoughtful discussion with him at the show.
2. Although stats indicate pilots/POCs are failing, in my discussions with companies it was the actual ‘scaling’ that failed. At the asset, line, or plant level, there was clear ROI. But, when the company tried to scale the solution, they hit a wall. As partners in the solution, we need to help customers 'scope out the scale' at the start. Aristóteles Terceiro Neto has some great thoughts in this area based upon his successes in implementation at scale.
3. OT and IT convergence is really about OT, IT and Business alignment. People chasing a project in OT and/or IT were struggling. People driving a business outcome were crushing it. Great discussion with Sean Heshmat from Cognizant at a dinner hosted by Shiv Trisal at Databricks.
Thanks for a great event.
