When has your fiction reading ever unexpectedly intersected with your profession? I’ll go first 📖😊 In the Dune series, there’s this chapter opening where the author basically describes #climatechange denial. See the photo. But the thing is that this book was written in the 70s. So how much was this a topic of public debate back then already? Was the author aware how relevant this concept would become? If you’re curious, the planet being discussed is called Arrakis which had slowly transformed into a complete desert planet with giant sand worms and sand storms that strip flesh from bones 🙄 So how about we get a handle on things and avoid that for planet Earth 🌏 👍 And please share your reading tips if you have some as well!

Not even in my wildest imagination, I would have thought that the most profound philosophical statement will be in a Sci-Fi book that is absurd, funny and weirdly makes sense. In The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by #DouglasAdams, the Guide says, "The history of every major Galactic Civilization tends to pass through three distinct and recognizable phases, those of Survival, Inquiry, and Sophistication, otherwise known as the How, Why and Where phases". The Guide then gives examples of the questions that characterize each phase: Survival: "How can we eat?" Inquiry: "Why do we eat?" Sophistication: "Where shall we have lunch?"  I have added another book in my list of favorites :) #Scifi #books

IT'S A VERY INTERESTING BOOK ABOUT CREATION. IF YOU KNOW OUR WORLD THEN THIS BOOK TELL YOU EVERYTHING ABOUT OUR WORLD AND THE WORLD WE LIVED IN. HOW ABOUT THE UNIVERSE AND MULTIVERSE? IN MY FATHER'S WORLD THERE ARE MANY MANSIONS. IS THAT REFER TO THE GENESIS 1:1 - THE MULTIVERSE?

As the race to the deep continues, luckily more and more people get interested in the #deepsea and the mysteries it provides. To all of you who want to dive deeper (sorry - low hanging fruit) into the topic: I highly recommend reading Helen Scales‘ book “The brilliant Abyss”. It also contains a well researched chapter on #deepseamining: ‘Natural resources become scarce; new frontiers are found and exploited until they too are depleted; as one frontier closes the next opens until there is nowhere else to go.’

Many thanks to Clemens Bomsdorf for this beautiful book he gave me. It’s one of the few adult novels by Erich Kästner, an author otherwise known for children’s books. It depicts life in Berlin between the Great Depression and the ascent of Adolf Hitler to power. The book does an absolutely great job of translating the zeitgeist into a fictional narrative. This is my favourite part of it, because it talks to my disappointment with the state of society in my own country: 'And what comes after ruin?' 'I'm afraid, imbecility.' Where I come from, imbecility has arrived already,' said the girl. 'But what is one to do?' 'If you are an optimist, you should despair. I am a melancholic, so nothing much can happen to me. I don't tend towards suicide, for I feel nothing of that urge to action which makes others go on butting their heads against a wall till their heads give way. I look on and wait. I wait for the triumph of decency; when that comes, I can place myself at the world's disposal. But I wait for it as an unbeliever waits for miracles. My dear, I don't know you. None the less, or perhaps on that account, I should like to offer you, for your dealings with other people, a working hypothesis that has already justified itself. It does not need to be true in theory; it yields valuable results in practice.' 'And what is your hypothesis?' 'You should assume, until the contrary is indisputably proved, that every person you meet, except children and the very Old, is a lunatic. Richard Bach's novella "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" was first released in 1970. Today is International Read A Book Day and this appeals to me as I read a lot - for pleasure, to learn, and to switch-off. It’s true that these days, with all the competing demands on my time, it’s often more a case of listening to audio books as I’m driving in the car, or coming home on the train, or walking the dog, but I can’t imagine a world without reading. So I thought I’d share a recommendation and perhaps you can too and we'll pass it on? Mine is ‘Why Woo-Woo Works’ by Dr David R Hamilton. I love anything that challenges and expands our generally-accepted understanding and this book does exactly that by detailing how ancient wisdom and spiritual traditions are being explained and validated by scientific investigation. It’s brilliantly explained, easily accessible, and provides a lot of food for thought around mental acuity, well-being, ways of working, and broader ways of living, Happy reading and what will you recommend?
