Ever wonder how Child Aid gets more than 800,000 books from Scholastic warehouses in the United States to children's hands in rural #Guatemalan schools? It's a real trip! We followed one of our favorite books - Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae - on the voyage of a lifetime. Check it out! And, if you want to help us get more books to kids who need them, give here: www.child-aid.org/donate. #ChildAidBooks #BookLover

One way to continuously improve yourself is by sitting down and reading a book. We're glad that our partners at Emerge are finding multiple opportunities to do this for their residents. #continuouslearning #grit #investinginyourself #investinginpeople
Roman statesman and lawyer Marcus Tullius Cicero once said, "A room without books is like a body without a soul." Thanks to a generous donation from Greene County Public Library, the residents at Emerge Recovery & Trade Initiative have plenty of soulful opportunities to learn and get inspired with a good read right off the shelf. I'm so thankful for the library's continued partnership with us. #learningandgrowing #inspiration #reading

There is no better investment in our country's future than through civic education. The Center's research-backed programs change the civic dispositions and increase the civic knowledge and skills of the students and their teachers. They have community impact through their project-based learning and every investment pays dividends for the future of our democratic republic. #civiceducation #allciviceducation #democracy

Please help spread the word by sharing this post with your friends, family, and colleagues, and consider making a donation of your own to support programming that enables students to become safeguards of our democracy. Who will read this book to her? She may not yet be able to read by herself. Her parents may not be aware of the overwhelming positive benefits of reading aloud to her. They may not have been reached by the multiple philanthropic organizations that promote read-alouds, even providing the books for free. Her single-parent may have an overnight shift position that makes story time inconvenient. Perhaps her parents have not yet learned to read. With so many organizations and interventions that highlight and promote the positive effects of reading aloud to pre-reading children, we must allow for there being some percentage of our nation’s children who are still not being routinely read to before formal schooling begins. How does this group of kids receive a daily, in-person, adult-to-child read aloud? Who will read books to them?

Have a couple of dollars in search of a good cause? Want to support community literacy for writers in prison? Donate to https://lnkd.in/gFga3qib! A fledgling nonprofit run by me and my comrade-in-arms Libby Catchings, Unbound Authors provides opportunities for incarcerated writers to imagine themselves as storytellers and sources of authentic knowledge, regardless of perceived skill, legal status, or formal training. Demand for this kind of open, genre-inclusive literacy support has DOUBLED in the last couple of months, including new participants from Veteran, Indigenous, Latinx, Black, and Queer communities; we are now in 3 Colorado facilities. That translates to a doubled demand on time and financial resources. To support that work, we would be ENORMOUSLY GRATEFUL for funds that cover the essentials; e.g., gas money (220 miles round trip for one facility alone), materials, and JPay funds to send electronic feedback. To donate* or learn more, here's a link to our website: https://lnkd.in/gFga3qib *NOTE: We are still in the process of filing 501C3 status on the federal level; we are, however, registered with the state of Colorado. Feel free to share this post!
