Blogged on WARC: “All you ever do is awards shows.” The ubiquitous comment from friends who are not working in the industry. Always I correct them. Yet always I love what’s hidden in that incorrect statement. It works as a good reminder of the special traits of the ad land, the creative complex. Having just been on two juries and a panel about awards shows, I wanted to share some thoughts with regard to this unique part of the work in our industry. 👉 These thoughts and our little Diamondgram: https://lnkd.in/dgUzngqh

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭 When it released in 1994, The Shawshank Redemption was a box office disappointment. Today it features in most best ever movies list. American Beauty won the Oscar for the best movie in 2000. It was critically acclaimed and won a slew of Oscars. Years later, it is viewed as one of the most overrated movies of all time. In the 2024 Grammy's Jay Z criticized the Recording Academy for the way the go about judging. Speaking of his wife Beyonce he said "𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘺𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘯 𝘈𝘭𝘣𝘶𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳. 𝘚𝘰 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘺𝘴. 𝘕𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘯 𝘈𝘭𝘣𝘶𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘳. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬.” In the online world, juries are fickle. You can get trolled and praised for the same thing. Or get trolled for putting out something you believe in. If you're waiting for approval from some imagined jury in your head, it's a waste of time. If you get swayed and disillusioned by people who don't have your best interests in mind, it can stop you from creating. One approach is to ignore all the juries and keep creating. Eventually, you'll find a jury that cares enough to make you better. #decision #jury #opinion

Reposted from Paul’s post. But here is to everyone who had cared for me. Most grateful to those whom I can name and those who had been my secret supporters. Hope to also have a positive impact to everyone I care for . The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the 'Peanuts' comic strip. You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just ponder on them. Just read it straight through, and you'll get the point. 1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world. 2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners. 3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant. 4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize. 5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress. 6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners. How did you do? The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish ... Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners. Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one: 1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school. 2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time. 3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile. 4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special. 5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with. Easier? The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money ... or the most awards. They simply are the ones who care the most.

I saw this on another platform & had to share. I’m not saying that achievements aren’t a good thing….but making a positive impact in someone else’s life is more important in my book 🫶💗🌟😁 🌟📌🌟📌🌟📌🌟📌🌟 The post read: “Possibly the Most important thing you'll read this Year... Every official narrative that we encounter in our daily lives has an economic or political motive behind it. J.B. Shurk has some great advice on popular nullification of the state's propaganda. Every so often, a story comes up which perfectly illustrates how far off the rails our systems of governance have gone. If you thought you live in the land of the free, think again. When making a list of desirable character traits, competence is one that rarely gets a mention. Patrick Carroll explains why getting good at something is an act of virtue. Why have so many of our institutions (academia, business, government, media & clergy) been turned into enforcers of wokeness? Paul Rosenberg says, it's because the barbarians have taken them. Article of the Day: If you're needing some encouragement, this may be just the thing. Jeffrey A. Tucker's latest for the Brownstone Institute examines the question: Did lockdowns set a global revolt in motion? Sponsors: Life Saving Food Fifty Two Seven Alliance Iron Sight Brewing Co. Quilt & Sew
