There can be many reasons why patients or clients don't follow through on your home exercise or lifestyle programming. One reason that most clinicians and coaches miss is anchoring actions to triggers. There are a lot of real + imagined barriers to their acting on (or even remembering) the 2 or 3 new things you provided amidst the 100 other habits, tasks, and demands coming at them in a given day (or even remembering them for that matter). If you can anchor those new actions to an existing habit, then you stand a fighting chance. - When you brush your teeth -> try balancing for one minute on each leg. - When you're watching TV at the end of the day -> sit on the ground for 5 minutes to do some mobility exercises. - When you lie down to sleep at night -> close your eyes and try to take 15 deep breaths, focusing on the rise and fall of your stomach. Rather than asking for someone to add "more," try to find opportunities to add "quality" to the habits that already exist. #physicaltherapy #health #healthcare #resilience #fitness #performance
