The reality of healthcare in rural America is alarming. With a projected shortage of up to 124,000 physicians in the next decade and 80% of rural America being medically underserved, the stakes are high. Rural Americans are paying a steep price for these shortages, as they face higher risks of numerous health issues, says Susie Martinez, national lead for Emcara Health’s CHW team. Our solution? Learn how home-based care teams that include community health workers are extending the reach of primary care and improving patient outcomes. https://lnkd.in/eqgBAqZi #RuralHealthcare #PrimaryCare #PrimaryCareCrisis #RuralHealth #HealthcareForAll #EmcaraHealth #InHomeCare #CommunityHealth #RuralWellness #HealthEquity #SocialDeterminantsOfHealth #SDOH

🌟Prevent Overload: Balancing the Healthcare System🌟 Rural hospitals play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of our healthcare system. By providing essential medical services locally, they significantly reduce the burden on larger, urban hospitals. This is vital for several reasons: • Efficient Resource Utilization: Rural hospitals handle numerous cases that don’t need the advanced facilities of tertiary centers. This efficient allocation of resources ensures that urban hospitals aren’t overwhelmed and can focus on more complex cases. • Reduced Travel Times for Patients: Patients receive care closer to home, saving time and reducing the stress associated with long-distance travel for treatment. • Quicker Access to Care: Localized care means quicker treatment, especially in emergencies, improving outcomes and reducing the risk of complications. • Community Health Improvement: By managing health concerns locally, rural hospitals contribute to the overall well-being and health of their communities. Supporting rural healthcare is not just about sustaining local hospitals; it’s about creating a more resilient, efficient, and accessible healthcare system for all. #RuralHealthMatters #HealthcareBalance #SupportLocalHealthcare

Improving rural health requires improved access to primary, specialty, and emergency medical care. The Rural Health Redesign Center has witnessed firsthand how our work supporting rural hospitals benefits the larger community at scale, driving improvements to population health, social determinants of health, and barrier mitigation. Preliminary results of our Pennsylvania Rural Health Model (PARHM) have found that cost per beneficiary remains below the national rural average, and quality outcomes, as gauged by statewide measures, remain consistent with national rural averages. Healthcare CEO, Corporate Compliance Officer and Health Equity & Inclusion Ambassador – Improving communities by increasing healthcare access
Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) empower communities through accessible healthcare by providing essential services that improve the health and well-being of individuals. ⠀ People living in underserved communities might not be able to find reliable, high-quality healthcare that is affordable. Federally Qualified Health Centers help to fill that gap. Providers at FQHCs work with everyone, but typically those living in underserved communities. They ensure that no one arriving at a center seeking treatment is denied access to care due to lack of ability to pay. ⠀ When it comes to providing affordable, accessible care, community health centers are at the forefront. Their ability to integrate within communities, understand, and address the needs of those who live there is beyond compare. What's even more impressive is how they’ve adapted to meet the ever-changing needs and challenges we’ve all been faced with over the last few years. ⠀ #fqhc #healthequity #primarycare #underservedcommunities #communityhealth #healthcareaccess #healthcareservices #healthcareforall

Our Impact We are working to provide more inclusive access to private healthcare By advancing health equity, we're not just improving community health outcomes - like increasing life expectancy and reducing maternal and infant mortality rates - but also driving significant economic growth. Bringing critical acute care closer communities has a ripple effect: every hospital bed added creates 1.5 direct jobs, and each R1 million invested in a hospital can generate an equivalent annual income for local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMMEs). This approach doesn't only address immediate health needs; it fosters thriving, economically robust communities. This is long overdue. Finding solutions to the obstacles faces by rural Americans seeking health care should be a priority for both Republicans and Democrats. The new bipartisan caucus will highlight the problems and seek potential legislative and policy solutions, including “stemming hospital closures, ensuring fair and adequate reimbursement rates, strengthening the health workforce, reducing health inequities and expanding telehealth and other innovative care delivery models”. https://lnkd.in/e3GUZYEF

2wWell said. As a rural healthcare technologist, I see both the challenges and significance of these realities on a regular basis. I especially appreciate the "whole-person care" element, as urban triage and standard care sequence solutions are not tenable for rural healthcare participants and lead to poor outcomes with a higher total cost of care. A critical element of "prioritizing" whole-person care will be AI integration in the very near term. AI generation of personalized care design, coupled with risk profiles based on proposed care planning tradeoffs, would be a low cost and low risk opportunity to address SDoH and rural access challenges. Caregivers lack both the context and capacity to build such personalized planning in rural settings, but it is an easy win for current non-clinical AI tooling. Thank you again for the insightful article!
