Slack recently took an innovative approach to upskilling, temporarily relieving employees of certain tasks to focus on achieving 'Ranger status' on Salesforce’s Trailhead platform. This move, although met with mixed reactions, highlights the importance of aligning learning and development (L&D) strategies with organisational goals. Ranger status, earned by collecting badges and points through varied modules on Salesforce tools and tech, is Slack’s new benchmark. The company hopes all employees will reach this status by the fiscal year-end, signalling a shift in how we approach upskilling. At Ergon Global, we understand each organisation and its workforce are unique. That's why we focus on customising learning programs to suit your specific needs, helping your team upskill in areas that align with your company's goals. Reach out to us and let's make learning work for you. https://lnkd.in/gRTUf5Pi #Ergon #LearningSolution #CustomisedLearning

Excellent article from Paul Davies (Econsultancy) highlighting the importance of training, but... Reading it, I cannot help but think that individual responsibility for self-development should also be part of the equation. It should be part of the job to learn and be up to speed with the latest technology and skills. In the article, it is mentioned that lack of time is the #1 reason for not training. It is time to teach people how to make time for training... 'Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.' 🎣 #timemanagement, #HR, #training, #productivity
With news that workers at Slack have been given a week off to earn ‘Ranger status’ on Salesforce’s internal training platform, how can companies make sure their staff are committed to upskilling programmes? "The best organisations overtly signal the importance of learning and give employees permission to focus on it over operational tasks by hardwiring it into meetings, forums and appraisals." – Paul Davies, Managing Partner, Econsultancy.

I Help Companies Design & Execute Strategies to Launch, Grow & Scale Sustainably. The Outcome - Alignment, Clarity, Focus to Build High Performing Teams, Create Memorable Experiences, Optimize Value & Maximize Impact.
Most often you hear employees saying "I am swamped with work to attend a training program." It's heartening to see #Slack recognizes that and is giving employees a week off to #upskill themselves and attain the Ranger’ status on Trailhead, the parent Salesforce’s internal learning platform. While to stay relevant and aligned with the skills required to realize the goals and take advantage of the opportunities along the #strategy journey to become an #agile and #resilient organization, it's vital to ask the following questions: 1) Are the courses offered via the Learner Management System providing a targeted approach to learning needs of the individual employees and (partners)? 2) Do the skills help them contribute to the success of company's #strategic #initiatives and future personal goals to draw their attention and interest? 3) Does the program first enable the participants to unlearn and get rid of or reconceive hard-earned knowledge, to make room for new knowledge? 4) To making the new learning #stick - is the organization behavior, processes, routines, technology being changed properly following the 'trend' or 'sentinel event' that acts as a trigger? 5) The recall rate of new information we learnt can be described using Ebbinghaus’ ‘forgetting curve.’ What are the initiatives being undertaken to combat the curve? 6) How does your #strategy build #capability and #capacity to support new ways of thinking, doing, managing and excelling and #measuring it? We’ve all done it, right? After ignoring five reminders about mandatory e-learning you get a final warning that you have to do it TODAY. You click through the questions as fast as possible, making little-to-no-effort to retain even the basics, just like you did last quarter. This compliance theatre does little to help individuals or the organisation. And yet Slack recently made their employees do this for *an entire week*. The Salesforce-owned company told their staff to set aside their regular work duties in order to reach “Ranger status” on Trailhead, the proprietary e-learning platform from, err, Salesforce. It’s reported that some Slackers responded by writing scripts to complete the courses for them. In today's workplace, e-learning is an essential tool for employee development. However, making it compulsory can be counter-productive. Here's why: 😶 It discourages motivation. When people are forced to do something, they're less likely to be motivated to do it well. This leads to poor retention rates and a lack of engagement with the material. 😫 It doesn't account for individual needs. Everyone learns differently; when e-learning is compulsory, it's difficult to make it relevant to everyone. This leads to boredom and frustration. ⏱It's time-consuming and inefficient. Forcing people to spend time on courses that they don't need is a waste of time and resources for everyone. Instead we should focus on making learning relevant to the individual and their work, by: 🗓Conducting a needs assessment. Identify the skills & knowledge that employees need to be successful in their roles. Then develop courses that target these specific needs 🗣 Providing opportunities for social learning. Encourage employees to collaborate and learn from each other's experiences 🕹Making e-learning engaging and interactive. Use multi-media formats to keep employees engaged By making e-learning relevant and engaging, we can help employees to develop the skills they need to be successful in their roles. E-learning doesn’t have to be a quarterly tick-box chore. Done well it’s an effective way to upskill employees at scale and manage risk. But like any part of the digital workplace it needs to be designed with employees and their needs in mind, so it’s effective and engaging. #LinkedInNewsEurope #training

Learning & Development (L&D) is a relatively new department for many businesses, but it has become crucial to the experience and performance of an organization's employees. Hear Halimah, a Learning Manager who specializes in Slack Global Onboarding at Salesforce, share her favorite parts of the role. "I really love the 'aha' moments when I'm facilitating onboarding...You can really demonstrate the skill that they already have in themselves, and whenever you see that realization for them it's so gratifying." https://bit.ly/49pkudy #getadvize #careeradvice #forstudents #learninganddevelopment #onboarding
