For instance, let’s say you were setting up a company to rival Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop brand. You could either hang around the loading bay when they get a delivery and check the delivery notes (risk jail time in the process), or you could try Import Yeti. Import Yeti is a website I found a few years ago on Reddit (it was in beta back then), and it is superb. It’s as simple as creating an account and then searching for companies to find their suppliers. Or, you could search for a supplier and see who they are supplying! Simply enter the company name, and you’ll find out who is supplying the company, how many shipments they’ve received, and lots of lovely data for your research. “I keep getting spammed by vendors asking me for $50K for a product that solves a problem I don’t have!” This is a direct quote from a VP of enrollment at a university I spoke with last week. The reality is that the vendors in question likely believe that their solution DOES solve a problem that the institution has. The challenge they are having is making the institution believe what they believe and see what they see. #B2BMarketing starts with understanding your buyer and using that knowledge to position the solution correctly. It also means knowing how to make your company the “top of mindshare” when that solution is needed. This takes an effective content plan and relationship strategy. It happened with virtual event platforms during COVID. It’s happening with financial aid calculators and CSS profile today. Make yourself the trusted expert in your space and the opportunities will come.
