It’s Black History Month, so let’s talk skin of color. Research shows skin cancer in patients with darker skin is often diagnosed at much later stages, when it becomes more difficult to treat. Many people don’t realize that skin cancer can affect anyone, and they may wait too late to receive treatment. 21% of melanoma cases in Black or African American patients are diagnosed when the cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes, and 16% are diagnosed when the cancer has spread to distant lymph nodes and other organs. (American Academy of Dermatology). The most important thing you can do to prevent skin cancer is wear sunscreen everyday and reapply throughout the day.. Corey L. Hartman, MD, FAAD, Founder and Medical Director of Skin Wellness Dermatology says, "In order to prevent against premature aging and skin cancer, we need to be in the range of 30 to 50 SPF.” One of his top recommended sunscreens is our Intellishade® Clear with SPF 50. #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM #RevisionSkincare #TrueVisibleResults #TheScienceIsBlackAndWhite

Affiliated Dermatology® has put together this guide to the fastest-spreading type of skin cancer. We’ll look at the types of melanomas and how fast they spread. Melanoma, less common but highly dangerous, spreads rapidly by infiltrating deep into the skin, reaching the bloodstream and lymphatic system, and swiftly targeting vital organs, potentially becoming life-threatening. How do Skin Cancer Screenings help? Skin cancer screenings shield against melanoma spread by detecting potential threats. Trained professionals distinguish between harmful growths and harmless moles. Melanoma itself comes in different types. Visit our website to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gKcnjwAy #melanoma #skincancerawarenes #arizonaskincarespecialist #affiliateddermatology #affderm
