Skin Cancer Awareness Month is coming to an end—but effective photoprotection is a top concern for you and your patients all year-round. With over 5 million annual diagnoses in the US, skin cancer is the most common cancer in America. One important way your patients can protect their skin is by applying sunscreen every single day, no matter the weather or their skin tone. A 2021 publication from the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology presented compelling evidence supporting use of modern sunscreens that offer more complete photoprotection from both UV and visible light (VL). VL poses specific challenges for people with darker skin tones; fortunately, today there are sun protection products for everyone under the sun.
