SANTO 241 🌟The Power of Presence🌟
Recently, I found myself in a hospice room, holding my mother's hand. In those moments, I was deeply moved by the presence of each hospice worker who entered. Nurses, support staff, food service providers, security team members, and others—all were fully present in their roles. They embraced challenges with grace, never wavering from their focus on my mother’s comfort and well-being.
In education, navigating challenges can be stressful and filled with conflicts. Yet, when we embody the presence and compassion exemplified by hospice workers in our interactions with students and colleagues, the impact is profound. Eckhart Tolle teaches us the importance of embracing obstacles with acceptance rather than resistance, as resistance only creates friction. By focusing on the present moment rather than future outcomes, we cultivate a deeper connection with those around us.
As educators, there is much we can learn from the approach of hospice workers. Finding fulfillment in the present, we can move away from seeking ego validation in our actions and instead embrace a servant-hearted approach to education. Making presence a daily practice, we embody the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita: "Do not be too attached to the outcome, then it is much more likely that the outcome will be good."
Reflecting on your own experiences, whose presence has brought you comfort and joy? How can you bring that same presence to your students and colleagues?#education #inspiration #leadership #teacherlife #sel
