AHA should have mentioned that they paid for this study. The elephant(s) in the room are not mentioned: 1. Abuse of 340B. 2. Outrageous executive salaries. 3. Non-healthcare financial interests and contributions. 4. Serving of less impoverished communities 5. Marketing expenditures 6. Lobbying 7. Legal actions against low income patients 8. Failure to differentiate charity spending from for-profit hospitals Some hospitals arguably should not be "not-for-profit". It could be argued that the not-for-profit status funded by the American taxpayer should come with oversight, transparency, improved regulations, and more significant restrictions on executive pay and interests. Should hospitals earn their "not-for-profit" status annually based on tighter regulations? Should there by some kind of claw back? Great healthcare requires great communication. And Becker recently published a list of top hospitals for physician communication, based on patient surveys. Some of the hospitals on the list aren't at all surprising (like the Mayo Clinic, of which I am a HUGE fan). But as someone who lives in NYC, I'm pretty surprised that none of the "best" hospitals here are included. Is the place you work (or trust with your health) listed here? Video | The idea of an extended hospital stay often has been considered a necessary evil of the health care process. After all, you have to be there to get the care you need. But, do you always have to be? The concept of delivering hospital-like services to someone in their home — a necessary experiment during the pandemic — is becoming a more common occurrence around the country. In New Jersey, Hackensack Meridian Health has been leading the effort. This week, the system announced its intentions to partner with the national leader, Medically Home, to expand its Hospital From Home program from three pilot hospitals (Hackensack University Medical Center, Jersey Shore University Medical Center and JFK University Medical Center) to its entire system. To be clear, the concept does not work for all conditions or all patients (more on that later), but it has been successful enough since the pilot began in 2022 to expand its reach. CEO Bob Garrett, who has helped the system continually introduce next-generation care options, said the system is thrilled to be able to offer #HospitalFromHome. Read more:

The new way: healthcare-specific AI that combines and processes over 30 million reviews and patient feedback from 8.5 million + unique online sources, for instant, transparent insights into what patients actually think. PEP Health is building a new standard in patient experience while bringing more transparency to hospital and healthcare rankings across the US.

Despite ViVE last week and HIMSS coming up, some folks still question whether #INTEROPERABILITY IS REAL. Maybe that's a question elsewhere but not in #MobileMedicine's world. "First in the fire" yet again (though rarely with the credit they're due), no matter the politics swirling about, Mobile Medical professionals remain committed to a connected ecosystem because during critical moments, THERE IS NO MARGIN OF ERROR. Some highlights from the past few weeks: 1. The CalHHS Center for Data Insights and Innovation Data Exchange Framework is now online (H/T Connecting for Better Health)! Over a dozen Fire, EMS, #MedicalTransport and #CommunityParamedicine organizations have signed up to join -- voluntarily -- because they realize the value in sharing their insights AND receiving them from others. AB133 also laid the groundwork for California to have a statewide POLST registry. (H/T BluePath Health, Felix Su, Timi Leslie, Manifest MedEx, John Helvey, John Ehrhart, Los Angeles Network for Enhanced Services (LANES), Daniel J. Chavez, Serving Communities HIO). 2. Both the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California and the Trauma Center Association of America have invited a poster about the value of getting #Fire & #EMS agencies access to #POLST forms in the field. We were honored to partner with MyDirectives to facilitate real-time critical information sharing during critical moments. In Virginia, KIDS OF VALR brought together Fire, EMS, Public Schools, and state specialty care resources to equitably ensure that Responders know a child's needs before they arrive...even if the family needs information in one of over a dozen languages!
