Pictured is a photo of Old Main and Ashurst Auditorium. I grew up in Flagstaff and went to NAU. Old Main was the icon of the campus. But Ashurst is where I took piano lessons in the fourth grade! Yes, I could play the piano. But when you’re learning to play the piano, you make lots of mistakes – that’s expected because you’re the learner. You don’t worry about it because you’re getting better even though your mistakes sound a bit rough. No mistakes, no improvement. It’s like that in business and in life. We make mistakes and hopefully learn from them. However, when someone on your team makes a mistake, what is your response? Good questions will give you far more insight into the person and unlock their potential. You don’t point out how rough it sounds since most people already know that! You ask the right questions to evoke self-discovery. Self-discovery is where the real learning takes place. Claude Levi-Strauss said, “The wise man doesn’t give the right answers, he poses the right questions.” We ask great questions at Convene...
