Global #equities fell 3.4% in October, extending their losing streak for a third-straight month. The United States, however, showed some muscle, gaining more than 2%; the United Kingdom stumbled more than 4% while China (and Asia overall) struggled. Factor performance continued to be consistent across regions and October was another risk-off month, with low volatility and beta stocks outperforming, especially in the United States. https://lnkd.in/eJkBNxJf

Stop trying to predict which countries will deliver the best returns during the next quarter, next year, or next five years. Instead, consider holding stocks from markets around the world, which can help position you to capture higher returns where they appear.

It was brilliant to be back on Bloomberg to discuss our outlook for equity markets. Can momentum continue? We do expect the environment to remain supportive for stocks in coming months, but the leaders may come from a broader section of the market with interest rate cuts on the agenda. Three areas we’re focused on: 1. Japan – we believe there is room to run, as corporate reforms lead to greater efficiency and profitability 2. Europe – economic fears in the region are easing, and company valuations look very attractive versus global peers 3.Small-caps – historically smaller companies trade at premium to large-caps, but now they’re at a steep discount. Could interest rate cuts be the catalyst for a rebound?

My favorite chart too. Look at 1980 - down 17% at one point, but finished up double digits. Similar parallels to now (inflation concerns, interest rate concerns, political concerns.) Thanks for sharing Kunal K. -
This is Global Market Strategist David Lebovitz’s favorite chart from our latest Guide to the Markets. Why? Because the message is so simple, but so important: Volatility is normal, but equity markets are resilient. In fact, the S&P 500 has fallen by an average of more than 14% from peak to trough each year since 1980, but it has finished in positive territory nearly 75% of the time. Global equity #markets continued to lose ground in September, falling 4.1% for the month and pushing the quarter down 3.4%. Factor performance reflected a strong risk-off bias on the part of investors: low volatility and beta #stocks outperformed for a second-straight month. Quality factors, reflecting investor defensiveness, also performed well in September and the quarter, except in Japan. https://lnkd.in/eRcnPvyu
