Honest Management #4 hiring honest people One of the challenges of being a leader is to hire or surround yourself with honest people whom you trust to tell you the truth even if it involves criticizing the leader themself. This won’t be easy, as we are prone (through our ego) 🫣 to show acts of #kindness to people who always agree with us and our disingenuous pursuits. However, if the mandate and vision of the organization is clear, people that uphold that ethos, should be close to you, ensuring that you keep in line and not venture out to the detriment of both you and your team. To finish, Will Guidara, former co-owner of Eleven Madison Park (World number one restaurant in 2017) once said to his staff “… sometimes what is best for the company won’t be good for you but more often than not, it will be”. #leadershipmindset #honestmanagement #leadbyexample

PMO Leader/Risk and Compliance Implementations/Transformation/DEI Thought Leader/Enterprise Change and Communication
Dear Leaders, Your Rock Star employees will rarely make effective people leaders. Rock Stars stand alone, they can sing all the parts, play all the instruments, and anytime they are in a group with comparable talent, there is inevitable conflict, chaos, and confusion. Most Rock Stars are perfectionists. They hold themselves and others to the same standards, which are also the highest standards. But, everyone is not a rock star and will not likely ever meet such high standards. The other issue you will have is competition for the Front Person spot. In the event you have multiple rock stars on your team, each of them will need to be a star to avoid conflict. Consider this: Maybe you need a Choir Director instead of a Rock Star, to lead your teams. Someone who fully understands how all parts of your team work together to create harmony. A Choir Director knows that Altos will not be able to sing the Soprano part and vice versa. They know how to build on the strengths of each section and blend those strengths to create fine works of art. That is what your people leaders should strive for. Reserve your Rock Stars for roles that lend to their strengths, i.e. Chief of Staff, Principal Consultant and Subject Matter Expert. Individual contributor roles that are both highly visible and highly regarded. Employing this model will encourage team success, a true work of art. #leadershiplessons #leadershipmatters #projectmanagement

Someone once told me there are 3 types of people you work with. The ones you pull into the parking lot and see their car and think “Thank God they’re working today, it’s going to be a great shift”. There’s the middle people that you’re indifferent to. Then there’s the people that make you think it might be a struggle or not as fun of a night. Your job as a leader is to never let any of your employees to know what category they fall into. I challenge myself with this everyday. I strive to be fair, treat everyone equally and with respect and to just truly never let my people think I don’t enjoy working a shift with them. Be the leader you would want to work for and you would respect.

I just finished "The Song of Significance" by Seth Godin and I would highly recommend it if you're interested in leadership or growing your team! Here are a few takeaways: 💥 Strive to lead like an orchestra conductor, relying on others to create the music, rather than just managing them. 💥 It's okay to have fear, and facing it with a sense of purpose and importance can be beneficial. - "Dancing with fear requires significance, tension, and the belief that we’re doing something that matters.” 💥 To keep people engaged at work, focus on nurturing a culture of curiosity, safety, responsibility, and purpose. Otherwise, you risk becoming a top-down manager and losing employee interest in meaningless tasks.

Reflective moment... Understanding the significance of having a trustworthy leader can have a profound impact on one's life and career path. However, unethical leadership can hinder the establishment of trust and the development of an engaging healthy culture. As a leader or individual that have influence, don’t forget to use your power of influence, and position to promote for the greater good. Use your superpower to become that supportive leader that can lead from a vertical and horizontal lens. Everyone matters. Strive to be an advocate for your team, and lead your team by embracing candor and transparency without punitive lens. Stray away from leading with fear…. But most importantly don’t be afraid to be uncomfortable in meeting your team where they are until they are strong enough to lead without the fear of failure. If you show them that you believe in their ability, then you have just won a raving fan! This should be an organic interaction. The most important thing to remember is that the people you work for/lead are an essential component in empowering others to grow and your organization. Whatever you do, don’t allow anyone to change your narrative! You’ve got this!!! 🙏🏽♥️🙏🏽 "You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing you think you cannot do." -Eleanor Roosevelt

A true leader understands that a positive attitude is the key that unlocks the potential of their employees. They know that by inspiring, encouraging, and supporting their team, they create an environment where greatness flourishes. A bad attitude may hinder progress, but a true leader always rises above, leading by example and fostering a culture of positivity and growth.

A servant leader is someone who prioritizes the needs of their team above their own, guiding and supporting them to reach their full potential. They lead with humility, empathy, and a genuine desire to serve others, rather than focusing solely on their own success. By empowering their team members, encouraging collaboration, and fostering a culture of trust, a servant leader creates an environment where everyone can thrive and succeed together.

People Pleasing: Easy conversations = hard life. People Leading: Hard conversations = easy life.
You can't both be a people-pleaser and a people-leader. Let's dive deeper: I remember doing a sales training when I was 18 years old where the facilitator said, "I would rather be respected than liked." I didn't agree... because I didn't get it. Now look, you can be both liked and respected. BUT, when you put being "liked" ahead of being in integrity with your values and making unpopular decisions that are best for the business (or your life personally), people will lose respect for you and trust in you. Why? Because we can sense on a deep somatic level when someone is compromising themselves for approval. And we can't trust people who sell out their principles or their vision for applause. In essence, your ability to be an effective leader, not just in the workplace, but also in your life, will be directly correlated to your ability to tolerate being disliked.

leadership is not about giving the commands, leadership is more meaningful when you impact the life of people working with you.
Embracing the role of a compassionate leader entails acknowledging that positions and titles are fleeting, yet the authentic appreciation and treatment of your team members will create indelible impressions in their recollections, underscoring the significance of leaving an enduring and affirmative impact.
