Are you interested in buried streams and their histories? If you're not sure, the story of Asylum Brook, in Beacon, NY, will convince you that it's a topic worth your time. Named for the former Matteawan State Hospital, this little stream illustrates how ideas about productive use of the land have changed over time and helps us think about how we want our cities to grow in the future. Check out the StoryMap I made here: https://arcg.is/0iWW1K

Experienced Vice President | Driving Corporate Responsibility & Inclusion | TedX Speaker | Newbie Outdoor Enthusiast
In the tapestry of American history, two significant legislative acts stand out as pillars of progress – the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (July 2) and the Wilderness Act of 1964 (September 3). Both acts, passed in the same year, aimed to break down barriers and open doors to new possibilities. While the Civil Rights Act sought to dismantle racial segregation and discrimination, the Wilderness Act endeavored to preserve and protect our natural treasures. As we reflect on the impact of these landmark legislations, it becomes apparent that their synergy is vital in fostering a diverse and inclusive outdoor experience. Later this year, on the anniversary of the Wilderness Act, I’ll share more about how the two are intertwined. Today we remember, reflect, and keep pushing forward on the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. #CivilRightsAct1964 #WildernessAct1964

Deputy Director, Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works (Bureau Chief, Bureau of Watershed Protection and Restoration)
Lots of healthy conversations going on in the Chesapeake watershed these days. I like to think of it as a byproduct of the intensity of restoration work getting done in the region. I appreciate the Banner’s even-handed approach to this piece: https://lnkd.in/eTksJix4
