Thursday night is Community Night! Grab off the shelf, join a group, or join us for the cafe game ‘Big City’.
"Big City" is a strategic board game where players take on the roles of developers aiming to build and expand a city. The game combines elements of urban planning, negotiation, and resource management, offering a dynamic and engaging gameplay experience. As players acquire property lots within various city zones, they have the opportunity to construct a variety of buildings, from residential units to commercial complexes and public amenities, each providing different benefits and contributing to their overall strategy.
The game board is modular, consisting of different sections that represent city districts, allowing for a unique setup in each game and adding to its replayability. Players must carefully plan their development projects, considering the placement of their buildings to maximize their points. Strategic placement near key city features like parks, schools, and transportation hubs can increase a building's value. Additionally, players must navigate their opponents' moves, as the construction choices of one player can impact the opportunities available to others.
"Big City" requires players to balance their immediate goals with long-term planning, making critical decisions about when to expand rapidly or focus on upgrading existing buildings. The game typically involves a mix of tactical thinking, negotiation with fellow players over property trades, and strategic investment in the city's development.
The visual and material components of "Big City" are often praised for their quality, with detailed building models and a colorful board that together create an immersive urban landscape. This attention to detail enhances the gaming experience, making players feel like true city planners as they watch their version of a "big city" come to life over the course of the game.
Ideal for players who enjoy strategy games with a balance of competition and cooperation, "Big City" offers a challenging yet rewarding experience, simulating the complexities and joys of urban development.

As we stand at the threshold of Peace Centre, now reviving by the cofounders of PlayPan - Play For Good initiative, Gary Hong & Yvonne Siow, it's impossible not to feel a profound sense of camaraderie. Just yesterday, the mall's entrance witnessed an extraordinary surge of visitors, a testament to the magnetic draw of genuine community spirit.
In an era where foot traffic in malls is dwindling, underlining a lost connection between these spaces and their patrons, PlayPan has managed to defy the odds. The secret? Remembering that at the heart of any successful endeavor lies humanity—our shared experiences, our expression of culture, and our collective pursuit of goodness.
The sight we've experienced at Peace Centre, soon to be etched into the annals of history, is more than just numbers. It's a vibrant illustration of what happens when a space truly understands and resonates with its audience. As digital landscapes continue to shape our lives, it is this human element, the understanding of our community, that sets PlayPan apart.
As we prepare to bid farewell to this iconic venue, let's carry forward the essence of what made it so special. May the essence of #PlayForGood live on, as we forge new paths and create new histories. Here's to the power of community, authenticity, and the human touch in all our endeavors.

In disheartening news, a recent report from VGC indicates that Free Radical Design is set to cease operations on December 11. Renowned for its TimeSplitters franchise, the studio had been under evaluation by parent company Embracer Group to determine its fate.
Sources familiar with the matter claim that Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors privately confirmed the imminent closure of Free Radical in a company-wide email. Describing it as a "challenging time for all of us," Wingfors expressed a commitment to supporting the team during the transition, designating December 11 as the potential closure date.
Adhering to UK legal requirements, PLAION, the umbrella company overseeing Free Radical, is obligated to consult with Free Radical employees at least 30 days before implementing redundancies. Despite this, there remains a possibility that another entity may step in to acquire the Nottingham, UK-based studio.
Regrettably, VGC reports that a significant portion of Free Radical staff has already expressed their intent to seek new employment. Out of a reported 100 employees, 55 have signaled their search for alternative opportunities.
Free Radical was brought back to life by Plaion in 2021 with a specific focus on developing the fourth installment of the TimeSplitters game. The original Free Radical initiated the first-person shooter series during the mid-2000s, only to close its doors in 2008 following the release of the PlayStation 3 shooter Haze.
