A few facts from Donate Life 👉 donatelife.net ✔ In the United States, there are nearly 2,000 children under the age of 18 waiting for a variety of organs, and more than 25% of them are under 5 years old. ✔ Most children under the age of 1 are waiting for a liver or heart transplant. ✔ Most children ages 6–10 are waiting for a kidney transplant. ✔ Most children ages 11–17 are primarily waiting for a donor kidney transplant; followed by donor heart or donor liver.

Every dollar makes a difference. • $5 Could help provide 167 pediatric bandages for children during hospital visits. • $10 Could help provide 48 infant diapers to babies undergoing treatment. • $25 Help provide a St. Jude family with meals for one day in the Kay Kafe, the St. Jude cafeteria. • $57 Could help provide 14 thermometers for doctors to use at patients appointments. • $100 Could help to provide one red wagon. • $250 Could help to provide 10 days of meals for one parent or family member. • $500 Could help to provide 42 platelet count tests. During chemotherapy, the platelet count of patients can drop to dangerously low levels so platelet transfusions are essential for treatment. • $606 Could help cover the cost of two days of oxygen for a St. Jude patient. During treatment, St. Jude patients may need oxygen to help their bodies function properly and aid in healing. • $1,722 Could help cover 1 day of chemotherapy administered intravenously to leukemia or solid tumor patients.  Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall survival rate for childhood cancers from 20 percent when the hospital opened in 1962 to more than 80 percent today.

Give for Good is North Louisiana’s largest day of giving. This event empowers the entire community to get involved in causes they care about while building awareness and support for local nonprofits. Platelet donation is a process where a person donates platelets, which are small cell fragments in the blood that help with clotting. Platelets are crucial for individuals who have low platelet counts due to various medical conditions, such as cancer, blood disorders, or after undergoing certain treatments like chemotherapy. Platelet donations help replenish and support these patients' platelet levels, aiding in their recovery and treatment. Platelets have a relatively short shelf life compared to other blood components. On average, platelets can be stored at room temperature for 5 to 7 days. This limited lifespan is primarily due to the risk of bacterial contamination during storage. Therefore, it is crucial to have a constant supply of fresh platelet donations to meet the needs of patients who require platelet transfusions. #platelets #giveblood #versiti #community #savelives
