We live in a nation led by people with strong opinions on every side of the aisle. I'm not even sure there is an aisle these days. But, there is always room for leaders to find common ground for the sake of the people they serve. I found some common ground on adding more jobs in the fastest growing part of Alabama's economy with Governor Ivey, Senator Katie Britt, and Congresswoman Terri Sewell. Birmingham is uniquely positioned to secure Alabama's economic future through #biotech. #alabama #nationalsecurity #cities #bipartisan #innovation #birminghamalabama #puttingpeoplefirst https://lnkd.in/gDqWwnfb

Cure, an affiliate of Deerfield Management, conducted this highly anticipated assessment of the #biotech industry in partnership with the Deerfield Institute, a division of Deerfield Management. The survey included company #founders and #CEOs, #managing directors, #investors, #scientists, and more. Exciting insights from experts in the field revealed an overwhelming sense of #hope and #optimism across the biotech sector, with 79 percent of individuals betting on growth. Advances in #science and investment opportunities in areas like #neurology, #metabolicdisease, and #oncology, driven by cutting-edge technologies such as #cell and #genetherapies and #AI and #machinelearning are fueling this positivity. Despite progress in various key areas, the survey highlighted a significant lack of innovation and investment in #womenshealth. Nearly 65 percent of respondents expressed #support for more #investment in women’s health. This trend is encouraging, as increased attention and #government funds are now being directed towards women's health, paving the way for potential industry #growth and resurgence. The much-needed investment in #womenfounders and women's health could be the cornerstone for the biotech #comeback and expansion. While it’s hard to know if the trend lasts, nurturing the growth of women's health initiatives could be the #catalyst for the industry #turnaround we aspire to see. Thanks to Caroline D. Marion E. Whilst the idea of fractional consulting appears to be an obvious concept, we are often asked to explain how we have applied this flexible approach with our clients. A great example is Cellestial Health, which is a start-up Biotech based in Cambridge created and led by CEO Nataly H. Nataly’s translational research focusses on the importance of protecting networks of brain cells called astrocytes. They play a role in inflammatory brain conditions, including Parkinson's, for which no cure or disease-modifying therapy currently exists. This is fundamentally different from the traditional neurone-centred paradigms, which can open up previously overlooked opportunities. Nataly created Cellestial Health which she spun off from her academic work. Setting up a small but dynamic biotech required many new skills, which is where phraktion offered support, including preclinical support provided by Paul Ford. Paul was instrumental in helping Nataly devise a strong strategy, alongside phraktion who were able to facilitate access to a wider network of experts. Their experience offered up useful advice on a variety of topics such as IP. With preclinical studies underway and new investor contacts established, Nataly is now looking forward to bringing innovative solutions to a difficult-to-target disease space like Parkinson's. Cellestial is currently looking to close its Pre-Seed funding round, so if you would like to get involved with Cellestial Health, Nataly H. would love to hear from you! If you are a similar small but aspiring biotech needing help to move your ideas forward, Paul Ford, and all of the Co-founders at phraktion would love to hear from you! Better healthcare starts here: The University of Ottawa’s new Advanced Medical Research Centre (AMRC) will play a crucial role in curbing Ottawa’s biotech brain drain. Ottawa has earned its global reputation as a vibrant city for medical research and innovation. But if it wants to keep its top researchers in the region and build a thriving biotech sector, more lab space and private investment will be needed, says Jean-Simon Diallo, who is founder and CEO of Virica Biotech Inc, scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, and associate professor at the uOttawa | Faculté de médecine | Faculty of Medicine. At the Advanced Medical Research Centre (AMRC), researchers, health-care professionals and investors will team up to accelerate the discovery and commercialization of life-saving therapies. “The AMRC is a good example of the understanding that we need to get researchers to commercialize their intellectual property. But we also need to support them with the space and the equipment they need.” says Dane Bedward, CEO of NeuroBot Inc. and former senior vice president international for Genzyme Corporation. “There’s so much grey matter here, but so many inventions that have come out of Canada get gobbled up and taken outside Canada.” Read the article or watch the video to learn more about how the AMRC will provide huge opportunities for the next wave of Ottawa biotech researchers and entrepreneurs. - https://lnkd.in/g46-G9Au #uOttawa #uOttawaAMRC #BetterHealthcare #StartsHere #Ottawa #research #biotech

++Unmute++ $213,000,000... it's a lot of zeros. And if someone in the region won the lottery for that amount, you'd expect to hear about it. Someone did... three weeks ago... Well, not someone but one company. Landos Biopharma, Inc. which is based in Blacksburg and was bought for that amount by the international pharmaceutical company AbbVie. Unless you subscribe to bio-tech trade press or PR News Wire you'd never know that tech companies in our region were valued anywhere near that amount. Leading that quiet change in the Central and Southwest Virginia economy is Virginia Bio. On this edition of Virginia Technology Today we speak to CEO John Newby. He paints a picture of a vibrant ecosystem that's been growing steadily for nearly three decades. Newby's insights into the biotech sector are eye-opening. He discusses the critical role that startups play, many of which are spun out of research institutions like Virginia Tech with the support if institutions like Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, Verge (formerly Valleys Innovation Council), Carilion Clinic and many others. These companies are not just improving lives; they're saving them by transforming cutting-edge research into accessible treatments. But perhaps the most compelling part of the story is the shift from what Newby refers to as a "train city to a brain city." This transition is not just about economic change; it's about the power of knowledge and innovation to redefine an area's identity and potential. So, if you're curious about the future of health, the power of research, and the economic potential of biotech, tune in to this episode. It's a narrative of hope, ambition, and the relentless human spirit driving Virginia's biotech industry forward. Listen now and be part of the conversation that's changing the world, one discovery at a time. A special thanks to: Caron Trumbo, John S. Phillips, Kimberly Blair, Bill Trifiro, Michael Friedlander, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Virginia Coordinated Clinical Research Network (VCCRN),

It is fantastic to be back in Switzerland on my way from Zürch to Basel🇨🇭. This is Moa Persson and my second trip down here in a couple of months and the reason is that things are just happening here! The biotech sector seems to be exploding all over this region, with both mastodons of the medical world being here, but also a vast and flourishing ecosystem of smaller start-up's as well as exciting research being done at Universities. This is just the place for Symcel to be and from our meetings with academics and companies, we have a platform that is a perfect fit for this ecosystem! So much work is being done into the research of new #antimicrobials, #phages, and #celltherapy, that our solutions for complex in-vivo-like model systems as well as fast and sensitive detection of bacteria are a perfect match. This will not be our last trip down here! We are ready for so much more synergy with these amazing clusters of #biotechnologyindustry
