The vital services provided by many non-profits are essential to the well-being of vulnerable individuals and communities as well as under-serviced populations. Providing scholarships and literacy training to non-profits to be used as incentives to support their on-going volunteer recruitment efforts can make a significant contribution to their ultimate success. October 30th has officially been designated as BC Non-Profit Day! #bcnonprofitday is to honor the impactful work of non-profit organizations and gain a deeper understanding of their vital role in supporting communities. This day also shines a light on the scope and breadth of the sector and motivates people interested in careers dedicated to advancing social change. ⚪ There are approximately 31,000 non-profit organizations in BC when factoring in all community, business, and government non-profits – representing 335,000 jobs and a $28 billion contribution to the provincial economy. ⚪ The community non-profit sector employs 87,000 people and contributes $4.39 billion to BC's economy. These organizations offer a wide range of services, including support for seniors, childcare, youth programs, arts and culture, sports, food security, housing, health, emergency response, environment, religion, law and advocacy, Indigenous-led programs, and championing Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) initiatives. #bcnonprofitday #economicdevelopment #kamloops #communityfutures

It’s no secret that private colleges are having a tough time recently. Due to widespread financial problems with limited state support, many are even having to close their doors. Yet, the latest figures show that enrollment at private non-profit universities has risen by 1.9% across the US. These figures may look positive on the surface, but for Midwestern states like Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin - this nationwide uptick has not had an effect.
