Visiting Music Tutor/Vocal Instructor, with 30+ yrs experience in publishing, arts, music & education. Supporting & creatively teaching ALL AGES (incl. Children & Young People) to better appreciate music & their vocals
#Music is just as important as any other subject. It’s a creative that enables each child to understand and appreciate other technical subjects. It’s an area where children find their voice, learn how they can express themselves in a subject that frees both sides of their brain. Where each child can feel inclusive and feel like they are bringing just as much into the classroom as anyone else, despite culture, ability, age, and gender. Even special needs can engage with their peers…..the list goes on #musicinschools #musiceducation #musictutors #visitingmusic #peripatetic #MusicMark10 #LarkMusicInsurance #ISM
Do you think children should study music and the arts as part of the school curriculum? Since 2010 there has been a cumulative fall of 40 per cent in GCSE entries in creative and technical subjects and a 23 per cent drop in teachers of these subjects between 2010 and 2021. We’re are supporting the Independent Society of Musicians, Edge Foundation, National Society for Education in Art and Design (NSEAD), Action for Children's Arts, the Sixth Form Colleges’ Association in their #SaveOurSubjects Campaign. #SaveOurSubjects warns that access to arts and technology subjects are being limited to students who can afford to study them privately and wants to address this inequity. Would you have studied music if it wasn’t a subject in school? Could you have studied it without school support? On Wednesday 19th July, with over 1,100 signatures, the open letter called on the Education Secretary to reform school accountability measures that devalue arts and technology subjects. The letter calls on the Department of Education to: Review the impact of accountability measures (the EBacc and Progress 8) on arts and technology subjects Reform the Progress 8 accountability measure, giving pupils more freedom of choice at GCSE Deliver the Arts Premium promised in the Conservatives’ 2019 election manifesto Want to support the campaign or find out more? #SaveOurSubjects website is available: saveoursubjects.org , including a full copy of the letter. A Heartfelt Tribute: Celebrating Teacher Appreciation Day (27th Oct 2023) Teachers play an invaluable role in shaping the lives of students, serving as not only educators but also mentors and inspirations. A dedicated and skilled teacher has the power to ignite a lifelong passion for learning, fuel personal growth, and empower individuals to achieve their full potential. Conversely, the impact of an ineffective teacher can hinder a student's academic progress and dampen their enthusiasm for education. It is crucial to recognise and appreciate the vital contribution that teachers make to society, not just on a designated day, but each and every day. Showing appreciation for teachers should extend beyond occasions like Teacher ' s Day, as everyday gestures of gratitude can foster a culture of support and encouragement. Parents can play a fundamental role in this regard by actively demonstrating appreciation for their children's teachers, offering their support and collaboration. Recognising that teachers have their own challenges and responsibilities, treating them with kindness, respect, and empathy can significantly contribute to a positive working relationship. Furthermore, teachers possess a wealth of knowledge and resources that can benefit students beyond the confines of the classroom. Seeking guidance or recommendations from teachers regarding supplementary resources, extra classes, or opportunities for enrichment can enhance a student's educational journey. By acknowledging and valuing the expertise that teachers bring to the table, we foster a collaborative partnership that ultimately benefits the student's overall development. Teachers form an integral part of our lives, shaping our educational experiences and laying the foundation for our future endeavours. It is imperative that we express our gratitude for teachers not only on specific occasions but on a consistent basis, through both words and actions.

Theatre maker, Stage Manager/Deputy Stage Manager and Theatre Technician. Drama Teacher, Youth Theatre Director
The short-sighted decimation of arts education in the UK is a disgrace. The UK is known for the arts, culture, & heritage. The industries under this banner add billions to the GDP of the nation. Our current government's obsession with destroying these areas shows utter disregard. From my 15 years as a drama teacher, and from my work with the Young Rep, I have hundreds of case studies of how arts education has supported and developed underprivileged young people toward better lives both in and outside the arts. Arts education has monetary and societal value. https://lnkd.in/eJSirDgS

In what ways might extracurricular activities inspire students? Co-curricular activities give pupils a well-rounded education and support the academic program. Sports, clubs, music, theater, volunteer work, and other pursuits are among them. Co-curricular activities can inspire students by boosting involvement, boosting self-esteem, giving them a feeling of community, helping them develop leadership qualities, and encouraging creativity. Through these activities, children can develop a sense of purpose outside of the classroom and receive a well-rounded education.

At Dancewave, we believe that young people should have equitable access to opportunities for lifelong success and thriving. Dancewave Through College and Beyond responds to the barriers young people face during the college application and audition process, and provides an empowering, full-service college preparatory program connecting students with top collegiate dance programs. Over the past 14 years, we have built a program that is unrivaled in size and scope. In fact, demand for this program, especially among families from low-income communities where college preparation is cost-prohibitive, is increasing at an unsustainable rate. This is why Dancewave is actively working to increase equitable program access so that the most marginalized students gain access to future-affirming opportunities in higher education and beyond. Creating more accessible opportunities for young people requires resources, and we cannot do this alone. We call on you to join us in creating more equitable systems: Contribute to our Go Beyond Fund and ensure that all students can access higher education and careers in dance, regardless of their race, gender, socioeconomic status or ability and extend your impact by forwarding this message to your community - every bit helps! https://lnkd.in/ef9Km--7
