In 2021 during the pandemic, I earned my Associate's degree in Commercial Music from Cerritos College. There really was nothing better to do than study, which allowed me to earn highest honors and have a better shot at getting into Biola. Before going back to school in 2017, I never considered myself an academic person. It wasn't until after I had my daughter that my values changed dramatically, and I decided to take my interest in music seriously enough to be willing to grind away toward any kind of degree. I did not know how far I would get when I first started. But as I found out, the mind is a powerful thing. It adapts if you don't give up. If you just keep showing up best as you can (sometimes only on fumes), it's only natural that you will inevitably improve. Growth will always feel like a struggle until you break through to the next tier. I did not imagine I would get into a private university, and for music of all things! But that's how you know it's your passion -- because you're willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. Finally, I'm graduating from Biola with a B.A. in Commercial music, complete with all the hands-on experience I didn't get during pandemic-caused distance learning, and a minor in Biblical Studies! Wow! I'm stoked and very grateful. There are many things I've learned about myself through this long, challenging season. One is, is that I love learning. I might return for my Master's in Theology someday soon, God willing and providing. The other is that this time has helped me get to know what I'm made of, what I'm made for, and what I'm not made for. I've got more goals. More on those to come! For now, I celebrate... mostly by sleeping for several days straight. But I look forward to the next challenge moving forward. What is your passion, whether you're actively involved or not? What makes you tick? What steps can you take to make it a bigger part of your reality?

"Why do we educators spend so many hours trying to fit everything else, besides wonder, into our curriculum? Of course, there is not sufficient time to get our students ready for the test, make sure they achieve mastery, cover everything in the text, and deliver awe. Yet, when we choose everything else besides wonder, we skip the most essential thing." Novelties capture our active attention and heighten our senses, making input more vivid and desirable. #contentbased #awe #IBL #ESL #inquirybasedlearning #tefl #tesol
"We need to find ways to infuse brief bursts of awe and moments of wonder into our education system. This is the work that we must busy ourselves with; it is the work that will be remembered by our students and it is the work that might make them happier," writes an educator. ✨

Braingasm of today; كيف تجعل تعليمك لا يُنسى classes become memorable when filled with moments of awe and wonder, which can be evoked through unique, imaginative, and innovative experiences. Such moments, often breaking the routine, could stem from field trips, special projects, or impactful interactions, fostering a lasting impression and a deeper understanding. Music plays a crucial role in memory retention, especially when it comes to catchy tunes and repetitive lyrics or rhythms. Teachers, consider incorporating songs into your math lessons to enhance student recall. For those students who require additional support in memorizing math facts, leveraging music can be a powerful tool. Here's a blast from the past, when NBC 6 South Florida came to my school and featured us in the Brag About Your School. https://lnkd.in/de3rR4RU #MusicInEducation #MemoryRetention #MathEducation

Teachers: Just a thought for next years curriculum: Learning about the Notting Hill Carnival and other carnivals in schools is important for several reasons: 1. Cultural Awareness: The carnival is a celebration of Caribbean culture and heritage, and learning about it promotes cultural awareness and diversity, helping students appreciate the richness of different cultures. 2. Historical Significance: Understanding the history of the carnival, including its origins in response to racial tensions, provides valuable lessons about social justice, community resilience, and the importance of peaceful protest. 3. Social Cohesion: The carnival brings people from diverse backgrounds together in a festive atmosphere. Teaching about it can encourage tolerance, inclusivity, and the importance of coming together as a community. 4. Art and Music: The carnival showcases various forms of art, dance, and music, making it an excellent opportunity to explore these creative expressions and their cultural significance. 5. Global Perspective: Understanding of carnivals also offers a broader perspective on globalization, migration, and how cultural traditions can travel and adapt in new environments. Incorporating the knowledge of caeniva5 into school curricula can help students become more informed, culturally sensitive, and socially responsible individuals. #schools #education #carnival #nottinghill #teachers #history #community #primaryschool

In honor of Earth Day, we are highlighting an important chapter in the Bloomsbury Handbook of Montessori Education by my colleague Dr. Maria K. McKenna , "Montessori Education: Ecoliteracy, Sustainability, & Peace Education." See the abstract below: Maria Montessori’s vision of peace education includes a deep respect for integral human development where a focus on the whole child in the context of the larger community is the norm. Within Montessori education, children learn each part of the universe, living and non-living, play a role in the cosmic order of the world. Long before climate change became a mainstream concern and imminent threat, Montessori understood that ecoliteracy and a deep reverence for understanding how sustainability, sustainable living, respect for the environment, and a deep understanding of the means of production and exchange were essential to the development of a peaceful world. This chapter explores her philosophy of peace education, its relationship to environmental stewardship, and the implementation of these themes within the Montessori context.
