🌟Check out how Classical promotes culture and self-expression through art, specifically through our 5th grade story quilts. Our scholars had so much fun creating these and telling their own stories about themselves and their loved ones!🌟 https://lnkd.in/emvCkVD5

In contemporary society, a prevailing issue stems from our collective oversight regarding the significance of oral tradition. Regrettably, we seem to have allowed the essence of learning directly from masters to slip from our consciousness. These masters, who encompass realms such as artistry, craftsmanship, and profound contemplation, remain ubiquitously present yet often overlooked. It's a vast and diverse spectrum, an intricate tapestry woven by these masters. Having embraced the mantle of an oral tradition disciple, I've unlocked a wealth of knowledge surpassing that which I've gleaned from written texts. There's an inherent value in the written word, no doubt, but it finds its true resonance when harmonized with oral tradition. It's less a matter of prioritizing one over the other and more about recognizing that their synergy elevates our understanding. The crux lies in the harmonious integration of both traditions, a confluence that enriches and amplifies the depth of our learning journey. Best Regards, Dennis Everett Jr

Happy New Year, Higher Education Art Educators! As you prepare course readings for the spring semester, Renee Sandell and I were hoping you'd consider adding our book ("Real Lives Now: Narratives of Art Educators and 21st Century Learning", published fall of 2023) to your students' resources for the spring or for your own collection! The book showcases the stories and day-to-day lives of contemporary art teachers as portrayed through narrative inquiry. Each featured educator - over 10 art teachers, an art museum educator, and an art supervisor - has a particular set of problems and opportunities - within a particular locale, community, and educational environment. We feel this book is particularly useful for preservice students (giving them a glimpse at their chosen future occupation beyond the examples in their local contexts), but also for practicing art teachers and returning graduate students (providing them with moments of reflection, discussion, and perhaps inspiration). Finally, the book could also serve as a practical example in art education courses exploring qualitative research methods, particularly related to narrative inquiry and case studies involving observations and interviews. We are attaching a flyer for the book, and remember that you receive a member discount when ordering it through NAEA. Here's a useful link: https://lnkd.in/eRmXqx7u Best wishes, Jeff Broome & Renee Sandell #arteducation #artanddesigneducation

Both my parents are from a medical background, but it’s often said that no matter what your profession is, passion never ceases. Being a child, I’ve heard harmonium, tabla & piano’s melody squeaking into my bedroom when they got back home. I’ve heard the voices, that synchronised in symphony. I started singing, it persisted but the venues changed. My study, to stage,to open mics, etc. I like penning poetries, which span teenage and adulthood, the phase I’m currently going through. “Be artistic & be creative”, has been the tagline of contests and events. Oh how higly do i admire art! But that doesn’t make me a good artist, neither do i claim to be one. I tried going to painting classes from 5th grade until 8th, and could finally make a good looking doodle, while my peers came up with life-enunciating & verisimilitude potraits. The time i realised, you cannot be passionate & dexterous in every flair under the sun. Perfection is utopian in actuality. You don’t have to be self-euphemistic over this! That’s the reason why you need a specialisation in one discipline & not be pervasive about conquering all. Department of English and Cultural Studies, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Delhi NCR Campus with Ayesha Tramboo organised “Ecripture- signifying the culmination of classics and modern literature, art, music, cinema & sport”. The subject matter is much more than the words elucidate(if you really think about it). This was my take on integration of modernity & classic movies & music. If you’ve time do give it a perusal. Drop in your thoughts, what better or different would you like in this article,if the ball was in your court!🤔 Let’s discuss!

Note for beginners... If you don't want people to see a work of art, don't tell them you don't want that work of art to be seen! 🤪 More on the story about this work by Vincent Namatjira in the link below, and the subject's demand that it be taken down. And remember, the whole point of works of art such as this is provocation. And if you're going to argue that free speech is absolute, you need to accept what comes with it. https://lnkd.in/eiRrNic2

A wonderful essay about #teaching with visuals and about the art of #knowledgemaps "For the knowledge generators of this time, the viewing and creation of imagery functioned as important instruments of philosophical thought and teaching." "First, artists, students, and philosophers used the space of the page to map theoretical relationships, so that in creating and looking at these visual representations, they could think through the mechanism of spatial constructs. Second, through producing or simply examining figurative images, they could think through the mechanism of visual commentary. Both spatial constructs and visual commentaries worked together as part of a common project of philosophical thinking through visual representation" "Altogether the broadside allows viewers to grasp at a glance how a philosophical discipline can be divided into its parts and how its parts relate to one another and the greater whole." #knowledgetransfer #wissenstransfer #lernen #lehren #visualisierung #visualisation #wissenslandkarte https://lnkd.in/eNk8PQca

When vital professional development, research showcase and sector-leading parts of the visual arts ecology are not valued at critical community interfaces, apparently to be subsumed by another art form, what message are you sending to students paying for the privilege, or their communities of interest?
So much for living in the ‘Real World’! Don’t do this Griffith University !!! There must be a better solution to the perceived problem here. * Edit: You can have your say email guamfeedback@griffith.edu.au.: https://lnkd.in/gmejQ6UE Angela Goddard Simon Wright Simone Eisler Naomi Evans Andrea Perry-Petersen CF … Australian University’s are turning their back on the Visual Arts because they cost money! Yet, artifacts are priceless assets. How is this a thing in 2023? The problem with Australia is our collective lack of appreciation of culture and inability to problem solve!
