Only 1 in 5 women seek help for incontinence issues... let that sink in! According to incontinence.co.uk, it is estimated that around 7 million people in the UK have urinary incontinence, with women being twice as likely to be affected than men. However, as the majority choose not to ask for medical advice, the number is likely to be much higher. 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 „𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥“ 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐮𝐬? Even today, women facing menstrual pain and heavy bleeding, are often dismissed as „hysterical“. Many discover only when they want to become pregnant, that they suffer from serious health conditions like #endometriosis. 😲 Shockingly, 1 in 10 women are affected and it can take up to 8 years to get a diagnosis, with few treatment options. During my time as Global Brand Lead for Endometriosis at Bayer, we launched awareness campaigns and shared #patient stories at a Stand Alone event with HCPs. Her emotional story moved even seasoned gynecologists. Personal experiences, like another one shared at the HBA ELS last week by a courageous young women on stage, prove that these women are not hysterical, but have a serious health problem. I personally know so many women who are suffering from endometriosis that affects their everyday work and life. Luckily, innovative FemTech solutions are emerging, such as wearable devices that monitor symptoms and AI-driven diagnostic tools to help those women. 💡 New data about endometriosis in Germany and Austria is also coming later this year. These results show an unusually high prevalence of periodontitis compared to the previous estimates from 1990 to 2010." https://lnkd.in/gnV6xnBs Yet, American surveys report between 3% and 5% of adults visiting a dentist had periodontal treatment. (Avalere Health, 2016) So, why the disconnect between worsening disease and a low level of care? Affordability is always the first answer. But there are other factors: fear and anxiety, an inability to tolerate the treatment, difficulty in getting to and from the dentist, and dismissal by the patient of the importance of treating the disease. Clearly, a new model of periodontal care is needed. Urgently. Think #Prevora. Because it works, it is painless, it is convenient.
