💸���� INCREASED MILEAGE RATE: 2024 🚘💸 Internal Revenue Service will increase the 2024 optional standard mileage rates for drivers to alleviate the cost of using an automobile for business. The standard business reimbursement rate will be bumped up by 1.5 cents to 67 cents per mile, effective Jan. 1. Not all of the rates for 2024 will increase, however. The IRS has set a new rate of 21 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes for qualified active-duty members of the Armed Forces, down one cent from the 2023 rate. The rate of 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations remains the same as in 2023. Under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, taxpayers cannot claim a miscellaneous itemized deduction for unreimbursed employee travel expenses. Taxpayers also cannot claim a deduction for moving expenses, unless they are members of the Armed Forces on active duty moving under orders to a permanent change of station. Taxpayers typically use the standard mileage rate for a vehicle in its first year of operation and beyond, but starting in the second year that they own the vehicle they can choose either the standard mileage rate or tracking all actual expenses.
