Celebrating 27 years of Mars Pathfinder! In 1997, Pathfinder's successful landing was partly thanks to Coats' innovative Atlantis thread. Our braided liquid crystal polymer sewed the airbag that cushioned the descent. For over 260 years, Coats' quality and pioneering spirit have supported space exploration. We're proud to be part of this iconic moment!

NEW GIANT VOLCANO ON MARS
Happy to announce our discovery of a giant volcano on Mars. It's ancient, deeply eroded, but was active relatively recently and likely still has shallow glacier ice. And it's near the equator. In these days it is important to improve our knowledge of our "best neighbor" #Mars (the toxic atmosphere make #Venus more interesting than friendly for next colonization missions): having a full detailed map of the red planet could help the next human missions on the planet.
A new #GiantVolcano and also a possible sheet of buried glacier ice in the eastern part of Mars’ Tharsis volcanic province, near the planet’s equator, make this zone really interesting.

I love the question Mike French posted. "Why should we support human Space exploration to the Moon, Mars (or anywhere else for that matter)?"
The key is in understanding the purpose and direct benefit to Earth today. I always say:
"Human Space exploration is to sustainability, what Formula 1 is to the automotive industry."
This means that just as Formula 1 drives technological innovation & advancements in the automotive industry, space exploration & specifically, keeping humans alive on the Moon or on Mars necessitates developing sustainable technologies & solutions that directly benefit Earth & humanity. Both fields push the boundaries of current capabilities & inspire developments that have wider applications beyond their immediate scope.
Formula 1’s high-speed, high-pressure environment fosters advancements in car technology, safety, & efficiency that eventually trickle down to consumer vehicles.
Similarly, space exploration’s challenging conditions lead to innovations in materials, energy efficiency, & environmental understanding that can contribute to sustainability on Earth. Living on the Moon or Mars is the ultimate circular economy across all sectors from energy, to water, to waste, agriculture, thermal management, even climate action, fertilizer production & recycling.
To influence sustained behavior change, you must inspire. Space is the ultimate inspiration, that has inspired humans, since the beginning of cognitive thought.
