By specifying lightweight, breathable FR garments, workers can stay focused on the task at hand without getting distracted by how uncomfortable they are. Today marks the 11th anniversary of the deadliest garment factory disaster of our time, #RanaPlaza - and while we hold space to honor the lives lost, know that progress has been fought for and made. Remake was founded to hold the industry accountable, to push for safety and transparency, and to train the next general of activists to protect human rights and climate justice in the clothing industry. We have the power to demand better labor and environmental protections, and we do that work every day. We lost 1,134 young lives working furiously to sew clothing that was going to end up in landfills anyway. We can and will do better. We continue to fight for the world's most vulnerable people. We look forward to more brands signing on to the International Accord, stay updated at remake.world 🔎 See the campaign timeline and more resources: https://lnkd.in/g2SBUTnf 💻 International Accord website: https://lnkd.in/ds4fEQxT #SigntheAccord #ProtectProgress #Ranaplazaneveragain

Hi vis workwear is designed to keep you safe at work, but it can only do its job if it is properly worn, cared for and maintained in good condition. Genuine hi vis workwear conforms to the international standard EN ISO 20471:2013, which sets out the minimum amount of fluorescent and retro-reflective material it must contain. The standard also stipulates where those materials must be placed for maximum visibility, based on scientific research into how humans react – consciously and subconsciously – to what they see. However, in order to be effective, hi vis workwear must be worn as intended when it was designed. In practical terms, this means following a few simple rules: Find out what these rules are and how to ensure hi vis workwear is being used and cared for correctly in your workplace here: https://hubs.la/Q025gqwJ0 #raisingthebar #workplacesafety

Interesting read
Celia Thornley, UKFT’s head of Skills & Training, is championing the UK fashion and textile industry today on Sky News. She emphasises the urgent necessity to equip the workforce with training to meet the sector’s demand. Celia has been involved in a series of garment production workshops at HMP Downview, a women’s prison in Surrey, offering valuable support to an industry requiring assistance. Currently, standardised training is being implemented across 73 prison workshops, equipping inmates with the essential skills of speed, precision, and quality control necessary for garment production. "We had huge redundancies in the '70s, 80's and 90's as the industry went offshore," says Celia. "Now brands are looking to come back and realising there's an ageing workforce, and most of the workers they used to have are retired." Contrary to common perceptions suggesting our clothes are produced abroad and British manufacturing has faded, there are actually 75,000 textile manufacturing positions in the UK, generating approximately £15 billion, as reported by the UK Fashion and Textiles Association. https://lnkd.in/eiZi5G6Z #skills #training #ukmanufacturing John West Adam Mansell Tara Hounslea
