Which is better? IT Outsourcing versus IT Software Engineer Freelancer? When it comes to deciding between IT outsourcing and hiring an IT software engineer freelancer, having a professional team available at all times is crucial. I believe in the importance of having a dedicated team ready to step in when needed. With IT outsourcing, you’re not just paying for a single developer; you’re investing in the support of an entire company. This ensures that whenever your project encounters issues, you have a whole team ready to provide assistance and solutions. In case you're an adept leader, using freelancers can save you money! Your Money - Your Choice

I've made over $1,000,000 freelancing as a software engineer. It sounds crazy to say. I made a video about my path, but here's the broad summary of what it means to freelance: Types of freelancing: Marketplaces: Most people think of these places: fiverr, toptal, Upwork, where you have a profile and bid for projects while businesses auction off the work Subcontracting: You are able to take the work from a colleague or an agency that can't do the work themselves. They get a cut, you get the work. Products: You build something that you either fully own, or have a lot of upside to create. And you sell it as a subscription, or a product to each customer. Support: You can charge per hour, or even a retainer to do the general maintenance of applications that are already out there. Staff Augmentation: Bigger companies sometimes just need a temporary push to build something. You are there to work as an employee, with a bit more money, but less security of being there after the 'push' is over. My advice to aspiring freelancers: Try anything and everything: You don't quite know what you're good at or what you like. Find it. Be social: Talk to anyone and everyone who has similar ambitions. Also tell anyone you know that this is what you want to do. Even if it's your neighbor's uncle that you do "website-computer-work". You never know where your next job will come from. Do not quit your day job: Seriously, don't put that pressure on yourself. Doing this fulltime, you should have complete confidence that the current workload will cover your bills. Don't quit your day job: For real, I'm serious. Also, here is something that is NOT in the video: Thar be dragons 🐉 : Test suites: Always be ready to be disappointed. Few companies have the energy and culture to maintain them to the best standards Businesses have real deadlines: Heard of waterfall? Yeah, that's because it's normal for everything outside of engineering. Don't gripe, just negotiate and find a solution at every step of the way. You will have to do more: It's rare that a company has the proper balanced team. You will probably not have all of these roles: Designer, PM, QA, Business stakeholder. You will have to do a lot of learning. Pragmatism wins every time: Software engineering is rife with ideals and ambitions for the perfect world. It's great to move the culture and have a guiding light, but at the end of the day, sometimes just a simple email message to the business user is better than the latest and greatest framework and pattern. I hope this helps, and I'm always online to help and mentor people in this new interesting workforce worldview. https://lnkd.in/d79xzKmq
