MONDAY MINGLE: While we can definitely help with all of your IT Networking needs, here's a few 'in-person networking' tips to ponder at your networkers. Here's some great advice from some of our executive peers: "Be genuinely curious about people, ask about their hobbies and interests." "Don't discuss work early on, talk more about things outside of work." "Ask questions 80%, talk about 20%, and you'll be liked 100%."

TUESDAY, APRIL 23, 2024 Today’s Tip Become a Better Networker Networking is not an innate talent. It’s a series of skills that anyone can develop, no matter your age, gender, career stage, or level of extroversion. To help you get out there and build professional connections, you can focus on developing: Cognitive flexibility. Researchers found that the ability to adapt your thinking in response to changing situations can increase your openness to networking. Simple changes to your daily routine, like taking a different route to the office or working from a new location, can boost your cognitive flexibility. Positive thinking. Rather than aiming to avoid errors or negative results, shift your mindset to strive for positive outcomes. This will help you approach social situations like networking with a more open, confident attitude. Persistence. The more persistently you network, the greater your chances of success. Dedicate time each week for networking, even if it’s just an hour or two. Whether it's in person, by phone or email, or LinkedIn, all that matters is that you follow through. Networking at sporting venues connecting SMEs and engaging stadiums with their business community | Founder @ Network My Club | Creator of The Networker | Sport Industry NextGen Alumni
When is the best time to network? Morning, afternoon or evening? I've learned how finding the right time impacts your networking: Some people are early risers to get their networking done. Some prefer it in the day during their working day. Some prefer after work. Everyone has their preference. And for good reason. Because not doing it at a time enjoyable or comfortable for you, means you turn up with the wrong attitude and energy. Meaning you’ve lost before you’ve started. This is where you can start to resent networking and go into what I call the 'networking doom cycle'. Reducing your motivation to actually network. Compared to finding the right time – where you're able to network as your most authentic self. At a time you are most comfortable with. For example: if you’re not a morning person, don’t force yourself to an event at 6.30am. If you can’t commit networking time during the typical work day, don’t try fit it in. Or don’t go to an evening event if you’re going to be glancing at your watch thinking when you can get home. I'm yet to find an answer to the best time to network. I don't think there is one. It's personal preference. But one things for sure. When you can be your most authentic self, this is when you’ll forge true, deep connections. 720+ readers of The Networker received this week's edition on this topic yesterday (link in comments), sharing what to consider, and how to find the right time (or times) for you. I'm interested, which are you? Morning, afternoon or evening? #BusinessNetworking

Networking is not for just when you are job searching. It should be top of your must do list every day. It only takes a minute or two to let someone know they are important to you. Here’s 5 easy ways to stay connected and make networking a fun and rewarding part of your daily routine: 1. See an interesting article or something funny? Share it with someone. 2. Someone cross your mind? Send a quick text and let them know. 3. Whose birthday is today? Check Facebook notifications and send someone a personal message. 4. Remember your prior successes? Who supported you in achieving them? Reach out and say thank you again. 5. Someone you know having a challenge? Reach out, check in, and offer your support. Networking is always a valuable use of your time. Lunches, happy hours, dinners are encouraged but add in a lot of smaller touch bases. It only takes a few minutes every day to let people know that they are on your mind, and you appreciate them. #networking #relationshipskills #careerdevelopment #careeradvice

Do you want to network? Here's my take on networking. You probably don't want to buy my stuff and I probably don't want to buy yours. But, if we get to know each other we might be able to make useful introductions at some point, equally we may not and that's the fun of the game. Turning over lots of stones until you find one that is interesting. Real networking happens in 1 to 1 conversations. Breakfast meetings are a great place to meet people to have conversations with, but they are not where the networking happens. I've been networking for almost 10 years. In that time I've made some good introductions and had some good ones made to me into the bargain. What I've also done is meet hundreds of fascinating people and had some great conversations. Would you like to network with me? Either a virtual coffee, or a real one if it's practical. If we've had a conversation before and lost contact - lets reconnect. If you're in my 1st degree network and we've never spoken - let's have a conversation. If you're not in my 1st degree network, let's connect. You never know where the next conversation might take you. Feel free to comment here, or drop me a DM. Or, if you're one of those brave old fashioned types, then my phone number is in my profile. #networking

Networking… Is it easy or not? 🤔 In work, as in everyday life, we need to interact with other people. For absolutely any specialist of any level, it is important to competently build working relationships with their colleagues. But it's one thing when it's just minute conversations or meetings at meetings where you discuss work issues. Much more difficult is the situation when you need to ask for something, convince of something, or simply defend your point of view. I noticed an interesting feature in myself that it is easy for me to do all this in my work, but it is difficult when it concerns me personally. As if in work I understand why I need it, as if there is an important goal. But I'm on my own and my desires can wait. But I think it's the same! Work tasks can be as important as our personal ones. Therefore, now I try to communicate more with people on LinkdIn, expand my acquaintances and ask questions, that interest me. It's hard so far, but I'm working on it. And how are you doing with networking and are there any tricks to make this process easier for yourself at first?

Everyone feels awkward when they first start networking. It's completely normal! 😅 Networking is natural, we do it all the time, even without realizing it. Remember when you bumped into an old coworker and stopped to talk and catch up? You were networking! 👍 Networking is having a conversation, getting to know someone, and seeing what they are up to. 💬 The best way to network is to just be human. Don't get hung up on what you say. How to come off nice but not too nice, formal but not too formal... Just speak like YOU. That's how you build real connections. 🔗 Here's what we love about networking on LinkedIn...the worst thing that could happen is they don't respond or aren't interested! 👩💻 You have nothing to lose. Most of the people in your position are feeling the exact same way. We are all human, remember that. ✨ #EvyrgreenNetworking #NetworkingTips #LinkedInNetworking
