I've used VLC and DJV for previewing dailies, CG renders etc, but both players has constantly struggled with various formats. VLC pretty much dies when I try to play .mxf files and DJV can't handle .mp4 files for some reason. But a few months ago I found my new favorite video player (which is also a review tool!), a free software called cineSync from the folks over at ftrack. Not only does it handle every file format I've tried flawlessly, it also has lots of great features such as: - OCIO support for IDT and ODT - LUTs - A/B compare with wipes - View render layers, stencil layers - View color channels - Draw shapes and annotations on the video files - Share notes and reviews with clients or through cineSync or .pdfs - Non destructive color grading for previews - Masking/overlays Have a look at this amazing and free media player in my latest Youtube video: https://lnkd.in/dxKZbMa4 If you often watch renders, dailies etc I can highly suggest this! VFX is not ok. This great video explains so many aspects of this newish industry. The fundamentals of the business and the yes culture of client / vendor relationship, the tax credits influence, studios opening and closing, cheap labour split, VFX around the world, innovative art transforming into automated clicks, pixelf*cking, inexperience producers and supervisors on both client and vendor side, exploiting artists by leveraging name credit on a big movie, the threat of AI, the strikes effect on content production (streaming, movies...)and the labor on allllll levels… I would add the lack of management skills running those studios, money wasted, creative egos forgetting that art can be financially responsible, those artists are employees and to be employed, the business (studio) needs to be healthy...
