The international strategy, “Inspiring Connections”, will promote all levels of our cultural sector to the wider world, but that will not be without its challenges. Scotland's world class cultural output is being harmed by #Brexit. The conversation in Europe is about youth, mobility and emerging artists. But artists in Scotland face increased bureaucracy and financial barriers making it harder to tour and to compete. If Denmark or France wants to book a Celtic artist, it is easy to bypass Scotland and look to Ireland. As a small independent nation in Europe with a £9.6 billion surplus, it is able to use its 92 diplomatic and consular offices to support its cultural strategy. We can look on in awe and envy, but we can aspire to that in an independent Scotland.

13 Dec 2022. We visited Rome and the Colosseum during our 1 month trip to Europe. A throwback because right after we came back from our trip... Some of the new movies featured Rome, Venice and other parts of Italy... Like the Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One, Fast & Furious (Fast X) and many others. Attracting film and TV shoots to a region or country is bigger business than ever because the economic impact of a shoot and the knock-on tourism value can be huge. Film commissions the world over tend to be funded by local government entities, often with a tourism component. What makes the Italian network stand out is that most also offer grants to local and international productions shooting in their region. Not only does this help attract incoming productions but it boosts the local production sector, and provides jobs and training opportunities for local professionals. The funds total a combined $56.8m (€52m) a year, according to the Italian Film Commissions body (Reported by Screen Daily) So, even though event organiser that host big concerts can benefit from renowned artist but even production company/film can explore on those such grants to bring the economic value. Neighbouring countries like Malaysia, Thailand and even Indonesia has the potential to consider attracting mega blockbusters film production (although they may not need such grants) or indie productions.. #Italy #Rome #Films #Blockbusters #EconomicValue #Tourism #Singapore

The ICOMOS ICTC worked recently with UN Tourism to support their development of "ISO Standard 21902 - Accessible tourism for all: recommendations for key players in the cultural tourism ecosystem." This can include large cities like Paris and accessing its historic sites, monuments and events. For the upcoming Summer Olympics, that also has a significant and standalone paralympic component, which have been part of the Games since 1960, this is as much a challenge for the competitions as well as the hosting venues and city. France’s first law mandating accessibility in public spaces dates back to 1975, but effective enforcement has not been easy.
