📢 TAKE ACTION NOW📢 Freshly weaned calves from Hawai'i are being shipped alive across the Pacific Ocean in grueling transport journeys to be fattened for slaughter on the mainland. Up to 80 calves are crammed into double-decker shipping containers, enduring terrible conditions on barges for up to ten days, traveling over 2,500 miles. With no mandatory reporting on injuries or deaths, many suffer, and some even die from illnesses like pneumonia.😢 Over 30,000 calves face this ordeal each year. We can end their suffering by banning overseas exports of farmed animals and supporting local economies instead. Calves don't deserve this—sign now to support a ban on shipping farmed animals overseas for profit! Please SHARE this post. Local residents and those visiting the coast over December will likely encounter seals on the beach: Please follow these guidelines: - It is breeding season and natural to see sick and dead seals on the beach, do not approach them. - Leash your dogs and avoid letting them approach seals, as they could be sick or dead. - Do not drive near seal groups - baby seals will likely get trampled during a stampede or drown in the water. It is disheartening to see a sick seal on the beach; however, there is nothing that can be done; it is a natural phenomenon. As always, please leave the beach cleaner than you found it, pick up trash and take it home with you (rather than leaving it at beach bins). Let's do our part in keeping Namibia's coast clean. #Decemberholiday #keepnamibiaclean #capefurseal #ocn #breedingseason

Getting to know the Cape Fur Seal of Namibia: What do seals eat? Fish! A fully grown male can eat up to 10% of his body weight per day while out at sea. Cape Fur Seals also eat octopus, crustaceans and even the odd seabird, but horse mackerel, sardines, hake, lantern fish or gobi are their first choice. Cape Fur Seals have sharp and pointed teeth to grip slimy food, but small fish are swallowed whole, headfirst so that the scales don’t scratch their mouths. Seals are often seen near fishing vessels; as a result, they are being blamed for stealing “our” fish. We argue that it is the other way round: we are stealing their fish! Overfishing has dramatically limited food availability in the ocean over the past decades. Luckily, commercial fish only makes up about 15% of a seal’s diet. #ocn #capefurseal #gettingtoknowseals #ocnfaq #sealrescue #seals #raisingawareness

There is a new type of epidemic going on - the dumping of animals. Dumping of animals is illegal in Colorado, but it happens still on a daily basis. Especially, chickens, roosters and ducks. Explore this article in the Longmont Leader about two domesticated ducks we took in who were dumped at Union Reservoir. https://lnkd.in/gQ9-qUer.

There are many remakable Organizations, advocates, behavioral scientists & doctors, Wyoming hunters and (tourists who travel from other countries every year to enjoy and photograph the beautiful wolves & grizzlies). All were mortified that a 9 month old wolf pup was run down by Cody Roberts and his snow mobile injuring significantly, which he procceeded to torture and abuse inside a local bar for hours, inflicting further abuse to a severly injured pup. All present in the bar were photographing the taking videos, you can hear their comments and laughing on the videos. This is animal abuse beyond the imagimation. All advocates are continuing to escalate to the highest level and set a precedence. This is not an isolated incident. Many earlier reports and videos, which are being uncovered are being added to this case. Chasing and running down wolves and other wildlife with snowmobiles is not a sport. It is a crime and horrific. The laws much change! The snowmobile companies produce their machines for all to enjoy the great outdoors & wildlife. Have the videos reached the companies making them aware of the animal abuse & cruelty their products are being used for. Why must we fight to protect our wildlife and environment?
This era of such callous indifference to the suffering of wolves needs to end. We must double down on our work to help wolves and other wildlife who are so dependent on our mercy and will for their survival.
Outcry over wolf’s torment and killing in Wyoming continues, rightly so

The threats right whales face continue to be driven by human activity. Between 2003-18, vessel strikes and entanglement in fishing gear caused 88.4% of determinable North Atlantic right whale deaths. We have the solution: We can reduce entanglement of the right whales by removing the vertical line buoy from lobster and Jonah crab fishing pots during key times of the year when right whales are in the area. ifaw, with the support of IUCN, has led a multipronged approach across the supply chain, with key stakeholders in the fishing community, to ensure that the anglers and right whales can both stay afloat. #NorthAtlanticRightWhales #Coexistence #Conservation https://lnkd.in/dvMfHZTz

The giant floating island is located in Lake Chippewa, a man-made lake in Wisconsin, USA. The island is made of peat bogs that rose from the swampy bottom of the lake after it was flooded in 1923. The island is covered with plants and trees that act as sails when the wind blows, causing it to drift around the lake. The island is called “Forty Acre Bog” and is the largest of many floating islands in the lake. The island sometimes blocks a bridge that connects the east and west sides of the lake, creating a problem for the locals. The locals have to use boats to push the island away from the bridge every year, which requires a community effort and favorable winds. The island is a habitat for various animal species and is protected by law, so it cannot be broken apart or moved permanently. #currentaffair #currentaffairs #CurrentAffairsMCQs #currentaffairs2023 #currentaffairsquiz #currentaffairschallenge #currentaffairsupdates #CurrentNews #currentnews #currentnewsupdate #currentnewsreport #pakistan #pakistani #pakistantimes #pakistantime #pakistantimes

No SEAWALLS, NO HOW, NO WHERE. According to #Anne #Birch oysters are the quiet, unsung heroes of our estuaries, working hard every day to protect our coasts, clean our waters, feed and shelter fish, birds, crabs, shrimp and other wildlife. #Holly #Binns ANd #Chad #Hanson (2021) of #The #Pew #Charitable Trusts"scientists with the #Apalachicola #Bay #System #Initiative research there are viable options for improving the bay’s health and developing strategies to restore oyster fishing. Oil spills, warmer and extreme weather events have severely decimated #Gulf #of #Mexico (GoM) oyster reefs. But the good news is, they can be restored!

Coastal Advocacy | Hector’s Dolphin Protection | NZ Coastal Policy lover | Canterbury Regional Councillor | Public Health Advocate | Neurodiverse Outlook | All Views My Own - born at 327 ppm CO2.
Although not regional in content, bycatch is an extremely significant issue in Canterbury. This dolphin death in Otago accounts for 50 percent of the region’s Fishing Related Mortality Limit (FRML) for the year, which has been set at 2 per annum. In Canterbury, the FRML is set at a staggering 20 deaths per annum - an unsustainable figure. Canterbury’s FRML accounts for almost 50 percent of the entire east coast of the South Island. Although this is the first reported Hector's dolphin set net mortality in Otago in 10 years, we do need to remember, the rest of the South Island has seen 11 further Hector’s deaths, since August 2022, with more than 60 percent of these, in Canterbury. Note: Otago Is home to < 46 individual Hector’s dolphins. #setnets #fishingrelatedmortalities #bycatch #rcp #taonga #hectors #conservation
