Connecticut has been establishing a continuum of community-based behavioral health crisis services for children and youth, including the 988 Lifeline (211 locally), Mobile Crisis Intervention Services, and Urgent Crisis Centers for youth. Unfortunately, many of these services are supported by short-term funds that will expire soon without further action. Our latest Policy Brief identifies ways Connecticut can sustainably support 988, Mobile Crisis, and Urgent Crisis Centers through small surcharges on wireless plans, similar to how 911 emergency services are funded. Kate Diamond-Keith offers learnings and insights into the Ballarat Community Health Central Highlands Elder Abuse Prevention Network (CHEAPN) approach to prevention. The CHEAPN, established in 2018 and has been supporting organisations and older people in the Central Highlands community to raise awareness of elder abuse and create strategies for prevention and improve response outcomes. The Network is funded by the Victorian Government and operates through two strategies: 1. Organisational capacity building for prevention and response 2. Challenging ageism through art #SDV23

Unlocking pathways to healing and equity, the “Keys to Collaboration Between Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Programs and Trauma Recovery Centers” brief is a joint effort by The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention and the National Alliance of TRCs. These national networks have crafted innovative care models to dismantle racial inequities and bolster accessible healing for violence survivors in underserved communities.  Empowering survivors with trauma-informed support is a game-changer. It breaks the cycle of violence and retaliation, as shown by research. Advancing health equity and improving health outcomes for all includes and requires building public health capacity to support people experiencing homelessness. Over the last few years, with funding and support from CDC Foundation, we were able to pilot what it would look like for three public health departments to be leaders in the health and homelessness space. The bottom line: this investment was worth it but too short-lived and small. Integrated financial support from public health and homeless service agencies is step 1 to making this a reality longer term and in more places!
